I often get the question- How long will my results last? The answer is surgery is a permanent change and certainly has longevity, however, we don’t stop aging. Most patients can expect to be happy with their upper eyelids after surgery for 10-15 years (or more), depending on their anatomy and skin health. What can help extend the life in your upper blepharoplasty? Wearing SPF daily and UV sunglasses/hat with sun exposure.

Here my beautiful patient is pictured 1.5 years after upper blepharoplasty with bilateral browpexy to help improve the contour at the tail of the brow. We performed this procedure in 1 hour in office in our Bankers Hill location here in San Diego. Recovery is 1-2 weeks, with little to no pain with the incision hidden in the natural upper eyelid crease.

This San Diego native came in for a lower eyelid festoon evaluation that developed in recent years. She had a history of several fillers around the cheek and eye area over the span of many years and was extremely bothered by the eyelid bag mainly on one side. After close evaluation she was found to have marked filler migration in the lower eyelid with a festoon. The migrated filler required two round of dissolving to both lower eyelids and upper cheek areas. The right eyelid festoon was then too expanded to be tightened using conservative methods so she opted for a direct excision. This is always a difficult choice because it requires placing a visible scar in the undereye area, but these typically heal very well and for large expanded festoons is really still the gold standard option. In addition to festoon treatment, she also was interested in an upper eyelid blepharoplasty and laser resurfacing around the eyes to further refresh the eye area and reduce excess skin. 

Here she is pictured just 4 months after a right lower eyelid direct festoon excision, with a barely perceivable scar, upper blepharoplasty and gentle laser resurfacing to the under-eye area.
