Maria is currently in the ICU and only has a few days left to live. She is a beloved friend, and her family is facing an unimaginable situation. As they spend these precious final moments together, we want to do everything we can to support them and ease some of the burdens they are carrying.

The funds raised will go directly to Maria's husband and family to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and living costs during this incredibly difficult time. With so much uncertainty ahead, any support will make a meaningful difference and allow them to focus on being together without the added stress of financial worries.

Maria has always been someone who brings warmth and kindness to those around her. She had a big heart and lots of love to give, touching the lives of everyone she met. Her family is now in need of the same compassion from the community. By coming together, we can help them feel less alone and show that they are surrounded by people who care. Specialist Moses Brave Heart, a member of the South Dakota Army National Guard and an Oglala Sioux Nation citizen, received a religious accommodation allowing him to wear long hair and traditional items — including a sacred eagle feather — while serving in the U.S. Army.

Following approval, Brave Heart began growing his hair in accordance with Native spiritual traditions, while continuing to meet all Army grooming and service standards. His case reflects a broader shift in how the U.S. military is approaching religious and cultural identity within its ranks.

For many Indigenous communities, this recognition is more than personal — it affirms that cultural heritage and military service are not in conflict. Brave Heart's story stands as a meaningful example of representation and institutional respect for Native American traditions. 🫡

SoCal Biking Friends reached out to EVA's Founder to request to sponsor and host a Veterans Appreciation ride starting from the El Moro Park area and of course we were delighted to accept.

They explained that they have many friends, family and co-workers that were Veterans and wanted to give something back to the Veteran/Miitary community.

They was esctactic to have come across EVA and what we provide for our Vets and wanted to be part of something grand. This being said, they wanted to sponsor and host this free event as a way to say thank you to EVA and our Vets.

Their group will be providing all the food, beverages and if you are in need of a bike to use at this event please let us know asap so we can make arrangements to bring extras to be used.

We are still mapping out the route. The route itself will be rated Green, Blue and maybe a potential Black, but overall nothing too hard as the focus is to keep everyone together and enjoy the ride. As a bit of a heads up, we start at the base of the mountain, so we gotta go up to go down and there is a lot of climbing, but the climbs are so worth the DH.

The route is still being determined, but we will start El Moro Park/Campground, part of Crystal Cove State Park along PCH between Newport Beach and Laguna Beach, which features the popular Moro Campground, hiking/biking trails through El Moro Canyon, and direct beach access and over 15 miles of trails.

Please spread the word of this great event and we hope to see you all there.

Meet up w/ bagel and coffee 0730-0800
Bike Ride 0800-1000
Dip in Ocean (if you like) 1000-1045
Lunch 1045-1145
