June is Men's Health Month and a time to raise awareness about men's mental health. While conversations about physical health matter, we also need to talk about the growing epidemic of loneliness affecting men across all ages.

Loneliness isn't simply about being alone. It's about lacking meaningful connection, support, belonging, and spaces where vulnerability feels safe. Many men grow up receiving messages that emotional expression is weakness, leaving them with fewer opportunities to build the skills, language, and relationships needed to navigate life's challenges.

The irony is that many of the emotional responses we're taught to suppress—including crying—are part of the human nervous system's built-in repertoire for communicating distress and seeking support. We don't need to teach boys how to cry. We often teach them not to.

Mental health doesn't happen in isolation. Connection, community, friendship, and support are protective factors that improve both emotional and physical well-being.

This month, let's create more space for honest conversations, deeper connections, and compassion for the men in our lives.

Client: "That's exactly it! Can you repeat that?"

Me: frantically searching my brain for the brilliant insight I just said: "No."

Pride Month is often associated with celebration, but for many LGBTQ+ individuals it also arrives alongside real concerns about safety, rights, healthcare access, and belonging.

Mental health is shaped not only by what happens within us, but also by the environments we live in. When people feel targeted, excluded, or uncertain about their future, emotional distress is a normal human response.

Whether you're a member of the LGBTQ+ community or an ally, consider how you can contribute to spaces that are safer, kinder, and more affirming.

Support can look like listening. Learning. Speaking up. Showing up.

Happy Pride Month. 🏳️‍🌈

As mental health professionals, we spend years educating people about the impact of chronic stress on the mind and body. We talk about how financial insecurity increases the risk of anxiety, depression, burnout, relationship conflict, substance use, and poorer health outcomes.

So it's difficult not to notice the contradiction when members of Congress argue that $174,000 a year isn't enough to live on while expecting millions of Americans to make it work on a fraction of that—sometimes as little as $37,000 a year working full-time.

If we genuinely care about mental health, we cannot continue treating economic stress as if it exists outside the conversation.

We want to work with you! Come grow with us 💛

Our ideal candidate is an associate coming in with approximately 1,500 hours accrued prior to application. Those who are independent, driven, collaborative, and will enhance our fun, connected, and positive-minded group. The candidate will be employee (W2) status. If you are interested in focusing on clinical work in a supportive, collegial and collaborative setting without the hassle of practice management this could be a great opportunity for you!

**We currently have three supervisors serving at bareWell to support our associates: two Psychologists and an LPCC. We understand that BBS requirements for those pursuing social work licensure is that 1,700 hours and 13 weeks with an LCSW supervisor. Therefore, we can only accommodate ASW applicants who have already completed those LCSW supervision hours.

Many people are carrying a profound sense of grief, fear, anger, or exhaustion right now.
Those feelings are understandable.
But despair has a way of convincing us that nothing we do matters.
History tells a different story.
Progress has always depended on ordinary people who continued showing up—voting, organizing, learning, educating themselves, having difficult conversations, helping their neighbors, supporting targeted communities, protecting their mental health, and refusing to become numb.
"This too shall pass" is not permission to disengage.
It's a reminder that difficult moments are temporary, and that we still have a role to play in shaping what comes next.
Care. Act. Rest. Repeat.

Finding the right therapist isn't about finding someone who agrees with everything you say.

It's finding someone who understands what you're trying to say—even when you don't have the words for it yet.

The right fit can feel less like being analyzed and more like finally being understood.

Therapy isn't one-size-fits-all. If you've had a bad experience before, that doesn't mean therapy isn't for you. It might just mean you haven't found your person yet.

Mental health does not exist separately from politics, culture, or systems of power.

Policies, rhetoric, and social movements shape people’s nervous systems every day — especially those already living at the margins. Fear, discrimination, instability, and dehumanization are mental health issues too.

Someone can feel emotionally comfortable to be around while still being emotionally unsafe for entire communities.

You are allowed to care about what people normalize, defend, and excuse — not just how politely they speak to you personally.

A hate crime at the happened here in our city. Lives were lost in our own community.

Violence like this does not happen in a vacuum. Fear, dehumanization, online radicalization, misinformation, political rhetoric, isolation, and easy access to weapons all impact collective mental health and community safety.

Entire communities are now grieving, fearful, angry, and hypervigilant. Collective trauma is real.

We cannot build safer communities through hate, division, or dehumanization. We protect each other by staying human, staying informed, and speaking against violence in all forms.
