To me "finding your center" means reconnecting with yourself.

🧘🏻‍♀️We assume that to do this we need to have countless hours of meditation...peace and quiet. But let’s be real, who really has that now a days?

Instead I tell my clients to think of these techniques as snacks: quick bites we can use throughout our day. What other techniques do you use to pause and center yourself?

***Some refer to it as mindfulness but take note that the origin of this practice comes from Buddhist practices and discourse and in particular the satipatthana sutta. It describes the capacity to attend to the present experience, being aware to the various feelings, thoughts and body sensations which can unfold all the mind's potential and liberation. @ San Diego, California

Where do I even start?!
It was a wild week...more like several weeks. And as I therapist, it sometimes feels like I need to keep it cool or under control. Well, sometimes it’s far from it and that’s okay. That just makes me . 🙏🏼

The past weeks have been difficult. They have knocked me down physically and emotionally. They have led to unimaginable physical pain, emotional melt downs, loss and grief and a need of comfort from loved ones. 🧡💛It’s taken a toll.

In times like these I lean on my go to metaphor. Life is like the ocean, stressors are like waves that come and go. Nothing is permanent. Everything comes and goes.
🌊 These past weeks have been huge hurricane like waves. But I know, they too will pass. Trying to stop them or stand tall doesn’t work, you’ll just get knocked down.
🌊So I’m learning to surf the wave and coast, even if it means accepting where I am at.
There isn’t a positive happy ending to this post. It’s just me feeling the sand beneath my toes, the cold ocean waves crashing at my feet, connecting with my happy place and engaging in positive self talk to overpower and numb out the negative talk. It looks like me doing all the self care even if it feels like I’m not doing much or it’s doesn’t help. It’s me opening up and being vulnerable on a platform I’m not a fan or struggle with because I know it’s a space to connect and it may help someone else. It’s me being raw.
