Why would a parent bring their autistic child to a nervous system-focused chiropractor? 🧠

Not because autism is something that needs to be “fixed.”

But because many autistic children also struggle with things like

⚠ Big reactions + difficulty calming down
⚠ Sensory overwhelm
⚠ Difficulty with transitions
⚠ Sleep challenges
⚠ Digestive issues
⚠ Feeling constantly “on edge”

These are some of the everyday challenges that can make life harder for both the child AND the entire family.

For this family, they came to us looking for support for their 6-year-old, who is on the severe end of the autism spectrum.

Through her care, her family has noticed significant progress in both her behavioral challenges + digestive health. đŸŒ±

Our goal with nervous system-focused chiropractic care isn’t to change who a child is.

It’s to support the nervous system that is responsible for how their body takes in information, responds to stress, adapts and regulates.

Because when a child’s nervous system is better able to adapt to what’s happening around them, parents may notice meaningful changes in how they navigate their everyday world.

And those changes can make a BIG difference for the entire family. 💚

“As a new, first-time mom, my gut kept telling me there had to be something more we could do to help our baby girl. She’s a C-section baby and was struggling with sleep, latching, reflux, and a lot of shoulder tension. Everyone around us kept saying, “That’s just how newborns are, it’ll pass,” but something in me knew it wasn’t just typical newborn stuff. On top of that, we were getting mixed opinions from different lactation consultants. Some said she had a tongue tie that needed to be released, others said she didn’t. We really didn’t want to jump into an invasive procedure if there was another option, so I started looking for something gentler.

That’s when I found Sprout Family Chiropractic.

The reviews were incredible, and I noticed so many parents talking about the exact same challenges our baby was having. Reading their stories gave me so much reassurance, and seeing that Dr. Nicole and Dr. Rachel specialize in infants and children made me feel confident we were in the right hands. The reviews were absolutely right.

I’ll admit, I was a little nervous at first because I wasn’t sure what chiropractic care for babies looked like. I pictured loud cracks and big movements like adult adjustments, but it’s nothing like that. Dr. Nicole and Dr. Rachel explained everything so thoroughly and made us feel completely comfortable. The adjustments are so gentle, just light, precise pressure with no bone cracking at all. And this is exactly why seeing a chiropractor who specializes in infants is so important. They understand how delicate babies’ bodies are and know how to adjust them safely and effectively.

If you’re a parent who keeps hearing “it’s just newborn stuff” but your gut tells you otherwise, trust your gut and go see Sprout Family Chiropractic. The reviews were right. This place is incredible, and Dr. Nicole and Dr. Rachel are simply the best.â€đŸŒ±

Most people think of the brain, spinal cord + nerves.

And yes—that’s the anatomy.

But what does your nervous system actually DO?

Think of it as your body’s communication + control system.

Every second, it’s taking in information from the world around you AND from inside your body.

Is it loud?
Am I hungry?
Is something painful?
Do I feel safe?
Do I need to move?
Is there a threat?

Your brain processes that information and your nervous system decides how your body needs to respond.

❀ Adjust your heart rate.
đŸ« Change your breathing.
đŸœïž Digest your food.
đŸ’Ș Activate your muscles.
😮 Prepare your body for sleep.
⚠ Mobilize you to respond to stress.

And much of this happens without you ever thinking about it.

For kids, this system is still developing.

Their brains & bodies are constantly taking in experiences and learning

“What deserves a big response?”

“What can I adapt to?”

“And when is it safe to relax?”

That’s why nervous system health is about so much more than whether a child seems “calm.”

It’s about their ability to take in information, respond appropriately, adapt and return to regulation.

Because the nervous system doesn’t just control one part of the body.

It’s how the brain and body communicate with each other all day, every day. đŸ§ đŸŒ±

How our body is wired to respond to stress is directly related to how our brain + nervous system developed during our earliest years.

Think about stress as an adult

Work deadlines. Financial pressure. Arguments. Parenting. Body image. Trying to keep up with everything.

Why can one person experience stress, adapt + recover, while another becomes overwhelmed, shuts down, snaps, or stays “on edge”?

Because our stress response didn’t start in adulthood.

Go back to your teenage years.

Stress was friendship drama, exams, breakups + pressure to fit in. Your nervous system was learning how to respond when life felt overwhelming.

Go back further.

As a toddler, stress was being told “no,” separation from a parent, changes in routine + big emotions you couldn’t explain.

And before that, you were a baby.

Stress was hunger, discomfort, overstimulation or having a need you couldn’t communicate.

You didn’t have coping strategies or self-talk. Your developing nervous system experienced the world through your body.

And that’s why the first 6 years matter so much. 🧠

These early experiences help build the foundation for how we regulate, adapt + recover from stress later in life.

The goal isn’t a stress-free childhood.

It’s giving a developing nervous system enough safety + support to experience stress and come back to
âžĄïžregulation.âŹ…ïž

Because today’s baby becomes tomorrow’s toddler.

That toddler becomes a teenager.

And that teenager eventually becomes an adult navigating the stresses of life.

Nervous system health doesn’t start in adulthood. Its foundation is built from the very beginning. đŸŒ±

“We’ve tried everything and it all comes back ‘normal’. Then we realized we were barking up the wrong tree”

We hear this time and again from parents whose child continues to struggle, yet they haven’t gotten any answers.

Labs are normal, “levels are fine”, “It’s just a thing at this age, “they’ll grow out of it” yet their child continues to struggle.

What hasn’t been checked is their child’s baseline. Is their child’s nervous system stuck in a state of fight or flight? Where is the stress stuck? And what should be done about it.

Without knowing this and without addressing it a child will continue to struggle with a nervous system stuck in a state of stress.

And this affects everything - sleep, feeding, difficulty with transitions, p**p, milestone progression, reflex integration, colic, reflux, focus, anxiety and the list goes on and on

Nervous system based pediatric chiropractic care isn’t about getting rid of 1 symptom. It’s about creating and supporting a resilient and adaptable nervous system that can handle change - big and small. 💚

This is why our care is centered around the nervous system. đŸŒ±

Because most parents aren’t bringing their child into our office because they’re worried about their spinal alignment.

They’re coming in saying things like

“My baby always turns their head to the same side.”

“They scream every time we put them in the car seat.”

“Bedtime is a battle and they wake up multiple times a night.”

“My toddler goes from 0–100 over the smallest things.”

“They’re constantly moving and can’t seem to slow their body down.”

“Every sound, texture, transition, or change feels like too much.”

“They hold it together all day at school and completely fall apart when they get home.”

“My child just seems anxious all the time.”

These can be complex concerns with many possible contributors — but they all give us information about how a child is experiencing and responding to their world.

That’s why pediatric chiropractic care in our office goes beyond simply looking at the spine.

We use gentle, age-appropriate adjustments to provide sensory input through the spine and body, with the goal of supporting healthy movement and nervous-system function.

We’re not trying to create a child who never gets stressed.

We want their developing nervous system to be able to experience stress, adapt to it, and come back down again. đŸŒ±

Because sometimes what parents notice on the outside — sleep struggles, tension, big reactions, difficulty settling — is what leads them to start asking more questions about what their child needs on the inside. 💚

08/18/2026

It helps shape how they experience and respond to the world around them. 🧠

During childhood, the nervous system is constantly learning, adapting, and creating patterns in response to everyday experiences.

One of the most important things we can support during these years is a nervous system that can appropriately respond to stress — without getting stuck in fight-or-flight.

Because when the brain and body aren’t constantly focused on protection, there’s more capacity for

đŸŒ± Rest + recovery
đŸŒ± Digestion
đŸŒ± Learning + focus
đŸŒ± Emotional regulation
đŸŒ± Connection + play
đŸŒ± Growth + development

Our goal isn’t to create a life without stress.

It’s to help build a nervous system that can experience stress, adapt to it, and return to a regulated state.

Because the patterns developing today can become the foundation for how a child responds to their world for years to come. 💚

Supporting their nervous system now is an investment in the way they grow, adapt, and thrive throughout life.

“Everyone keeps telling me what a happy baby she is now.“

“Her grandparents see such a big difference in behavior”

“He has way less meltdowns, we haven’t been called to pick him up from school early”

“He’s p**ping way better, still some ups and downs but we’re not going 7 days no p**p”

“She’s finally able to sleep through the night and not coming into our room”
