🎒✏️ The back-to-school checklist item many parents forget: a comprehensive eye exam. 👀
Clear vision is about much more than reading the 20/20 line. A child may pass a pediatric well vision screening or school vision screening while still having difficulty with focusing, tracking, eye teaming or eye health—all of which can make learning more challenging.
And children don’t always know something is wrong. Instead, they may squint, sit too close to screens, rub their eyes, use a finger to keep their place, tilt their head or avoid reading altogether.
When should children have an eye exam?
👶 A first comprehensive exam between 6–12 months
🧒 At least once between ages 3–5
📚 Before first grade
🗓️ Annually throughout the school years—or more often if recommended by their eye doctor
Starting the school year with a comprehensive eye exam helps ensure your child has the clear, comfortable vision they need to learn with confidence.
