**Myth:** Older adults can't participate in clinical trials.

**Fact:** Many clinical trials actively seek older adult participants because treatments need to be evaluated in the people most likely to use them.

Each study has its own eligibility requirements based on the research being conducted, not age alone.

Including older adults in clinical research helps scientists better understand how treatments work across different stages of life and supports the development of healthcare solutions that benefit aging populations.

If you're interested in research, don't assume your age automatically prevents participation. The research team can help determine whether a study may be a good fit.

Every participant's journey through a clinical trial is unique, but most studies follow a similar path.

It often begins with learning about a study and completing a screening visit. If eligible, participants move into the study phase, where they attend scheduled visits, complete study-related activities, and receive ongoing support from the research team.

Throughout the study, participants have opportunities to ask questions, learn more about the research, and stay informed about what to expect.

From the first conversation through the final follow-up visit, research teams are committed to helping participants feel informed, supported, and respected every step of the way.

Today is World Alzheimer’s Day, a time to raise awareness, support those affected by Alzheimer’s disease, and recognize the importance of continued research.

Alzheimer’s is a progressive brain disease that affects memory, thinking, and behavior. While it most often affects older adults, it is not a normal part of aging.

Clinical research continues to expand our understanding of Alzheimer’s disease, from identifying potential risk factors and early signs to evaluating new approaches to prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.

Every study, every discovery, and every person who chooses to participate in research helps move our understanding forward.

Today, we recognize individuals living with Alzheimer’s, their families and caregivers, and the researchers and clinical trial participants helping advance the future of Alzheimer’s care.

Chronic pain affects millions of people and can have a significant impact on daily life, mobility, and overall wellbeing.

Unlike acute pain, which serves as a warning signal, chronic pain can persist for months or longer, even after the original cause has resolved.

Clinical research is helping advance the understanding of different types of pain and how they can be treated more effectively. This includes conditions such as:
✔️ Diabetic neuropathy, which can cause burning, tingling, or numbness in the hands and feet
✔️ Degenerative disc disease, a common source of chronic low back pain
✔️ Post-surgical pain that may persist beyond the expected healing period
✔️ Neuropathic pain
✔️ Musculoskeletal pain
✔️ Inflammatory pain

Studies continue to explore new therapies, management strategies, and approaches tailored to specific pain conditions.

Research plays an important role in improving quality of life for those living with chronic pain.

If you participate in a clinical trial, one of the people you'll likely spend the most time with is your Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC).

Clinical Research Coordinators help guide participants through each step of the study. They schedule visits, explain study procedures, answer questions, coordinate care with the study physician, and help ensure every visit is completed according to the study protocol.

They're often your primary point of contact throughout the clinical trial and are there to help make your experience as comfortable and informed as possible.

Behind every successful clinical trial is a dedicated team committed to supporting participants every step of the way.

World Alzheimer's Month is an opportunity to raise awareness about Alzheimer's disease, reduce stigma, and recognize the importance of ongoing research.

Millions of individuals and families are affected by Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia, making continued scientific discovery more important than ever.

Clinical research is helping scientists better understand how these diseases develop, identify potential risk factors, improve diagnosis, and evaluate new approaches to treatment.

Every advancement begins with research and the dedication of participants, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and researchers working together toward a future with better options for patients and families.

It's Cholesterol Education Month! Do you know your numbers? High cholesterol can be silent, but its impact on heart health is serious. The good news? There are steps you can take to help keep your numbers in a healthy range.

Principal Investigator, Dr. Park, shares a few simple reminders:
▪️ Schedule regular cholesterol screenings, even if you feel fine
▪️ Add more fiber-rich foods like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains to your meals
▪️ Stay active with movement you enjoy; consistency matters more than perfection

Taking time to understand your cholesterol and make small, consistent changes can make a big difference for your long-term health.

Collaboration isn’t just encouraged in our network; it’s a part of our DNA. Being part of a wholly owned site network allows us to create a culture of collaboration and dedication across every location. This unified approach means our teams share knowledge, celebrate wins, and tackle challenges together.

We use every opportunity to expand diversity through learning and growth at every functional level. By empowering sites to share openly and seek collaborative solutions, we’re able to deliver unique and transformative research experiences for our patients.

Collaboration is more than a value—it’s a strategy for better outcomes.

Clinical trial participants aren’t just data points—they’re people who deserve care, respect, and a positive experience every step of the way. At M3 Wake Research, patient experience starts with a mindset: these are volunteers, not “subjects,” and they’re trusting us with their time and health.

As Susan Hernandez, our Director of Clinical Affairs, puts it:
“From the front desk staff to the principal investigator, every member of our interdisciplinary team plays a vital role in creating a thoughtful and supportive experience. We strive to treat every participant with the same care, attention, and dignity we would offer our own loved ones.”

This is what it means to lead with empathy and build trust in clinical research.
