Neurosomatic bodywork looks at more than muscle tension—it considers the nervous system behind the experience of tension, pain, stress and recovery.

Therapeutic touch creates sensory input that the brain is constantly processing. Pressure, movement, temperature, breath and a calm environment can influence arousal, muscle tone, pain perception and overall nervous-system state.

The goal isn’t to force a particular brain wave or “switch off” the nervous system. It’s to create conditions that support regulation and allow the brain and body to move toward greater balance.

THE HPA AXIS + THE CHRONIC STRESS LOOP

Stress is a normal part of how the body responds to challenge. But when stress becomes ongoing, the body may have a harder time fully shifting out of that response.

The HPA axis — the hypothalamus, pituitary gland, and adrenal glands — is one of the major systems involved in coordinating our stress response. When stress continues over time, it can influence sleep, energy, muscle tension, pain sensitivity, digestion, mood, and recovery.

Massage and therapeutic bodywork offer the body an opportunity to slow down. Through skilled touch, soft-tissue work, breath, and nervous-system-informed techniques, bodywork can help reduce muscular guarding, encourage relaxation, support deeper breathing, and bring greater awareness to where stress and tension are being held in the body.

We can’t remove every stressor from life, but we can give the body space to recover from them.

Sometimes regulation looks like slowing down.
A walk by the water, fresh air, open space, and a chance for the nervous system to exhale.
Stress, pain, and tension don’t always need more force. Sometimes the body responds best to calm, support, and the right environment to reset.
At OM-Milly Neurosomatic Bodywork, the goal is to help your body shift out of stress and into greater ease, balance, and recovery.
Reconnect. Regulate. Restore.

THE VAGUS NERVE | The Pathway to Regulation

The vagus nerve is one of the body’s major communication pathways—connecting the brain with the heart, lungs, digestive system, and other internal organs.

Through intentional touch, breath awareness, cranial work, and releasing tension around the neck, chest, and diaphragm, Neurosomatic Bodywork can support the conditions that help the nervous system shift toward rest, regulation, and recovery.

The goal isn’t to force the body to relax. It’s to give it the sensory input and space to restore, regulate, and reconnect.

There’s a path back to balance.

Homeostasis is the body’s ongoing process of adjusting, regulating, and returning toward equilibrium. Stress, repetitive movement, pain, and everyday demands can keep the nervous system and muscles working overtime.

Massage and neurosomatic bodywork create space to slow down, release muscular tension, reconnect with sensation, and support the body’s natural regulatory processes.

Sometimes wellness isn’t about pushing harder—it’s about giving the body the right conditions to find its way back toward balance.

Your heartbeat tells a story.

Heart Rate Variability (HRV) isn't about how fast your heart beats—it's about how well your nervous system adapts.

A healthy HRV reflects flexibility. It suggests your body can move between challenge and recovery, activation and rest. Lower HRV can occur during periods of chronic stress, poor sleep, persistent pain, illness, or emotional overload, when the nervous system stays in a more protective state.

Neurosomatic Bodywork doesn't directly "increase HRV." Instead, it helps create the conditions that support healthy nervous system regulation. By reducing protective muscle guarding, improving breathing mechanics, restoring movement, and increasing interoceptive awareness, the body has a better opportunity to shift toward balance and recovery.

The goal isn't to force relaxation.
It's to help your nervous system remember that it has the capacity to adapt.

Stress doesn't just live in the mind—it becomes part of the body's physiology.

When the nervous system stays in a protective state, muscles often remain guarded, breathing becomes shallow, and recovery becomes more difficult.

Neurosomatic Bodywork works through the body's sensory and motor systems, using skilled touch to help reduce unnecessary tension and support a shift toward a more regulated state.

The goal isn't simply relaxation. It's creating the conditions for your body to move, breathe, and recover more efficiently.
Restore. Regulate. Reconnect.
