It’s hard to believe this is the same 3yr old girl who was afraid to go under when we started lessons this summer! She used to get upset even if her face got splashed!

The next video was last month after making huge progress, willingly putting her face under water.

Now all she wants to do is swim underwater! I love that I helped show her how fun swimming can be 🫶

We had a few 15 min sessions of nervous crying/screaming the entire time, but yesterday Giulia ran to me smiling when I got to her pool🥹

An important drill to practice with even your confident swimmers: taking goggles filled with water off.
Ideally our kids are comfortable swimming with or without goggles, but this family was getting ready for a vacation that meant spending hours in the pool! (Little eyes can sting in chlorine and salt water)
When you jump in or swim with goggles it is inevitable that they will fill up with water, or get knocked around leading to you not being able to see! This can cause panic! To get ready for this, we practiced taking goggles off mid swim and returning to the wall. 👏

Swimming isn’t just a life saving skill, it opens up a whole new world of play and fun in the water!! Watching all of my students progress is so rewarding! He went from barely wanting to put his face in the water to letting me push him down to the bottom of the pool to grab a toy!
So many skills are actually learned through play:
🐟When he goes under to grab a toy and pops back up, he’s practicing holding his breath and starting to learn how to come up for air on his own
🦀Finding my hand for a high-five teaches him when to come up for air
🐙Jumping in and finding the wall without me right next to him builds so confidence in the water

He is going to have such a fun summer in the pool!
