You've done the cardio. You've cut the calories. And the scale still won't move β€” or worse, it's all sitting in your belly.
A couple weeks ago I told you why that's a cortisol problem, not a willpower problem. This week's the other half: muscle is your metabolism. Not more miles. More muscle.
I compete in powerlifting in my 40s, right in the middle of my own perimenopause β€” and I'm walking you through exactly why strength training beats cardio for your menopause metabolism, and how to start even if you've never picked up a weight in your life.
πŸŽ₯ New video is up now.

Waking up at 3am, wide awake, for no reason you can point to? You're not losing your mind β€” and you're not alone.
Join Dr. Brooke Leverone, naturopathic doctor and competitive powerlifter navigating menopause herself, for a real talk on why your hormones hijack your sleep at that exact same time every night β€” and what's actually happening in your body when they do.
No fear-mongering. No "just manage your stress better." Just the clear, science-backed explanation you've been asking your doctor for (and maybe not getting).
You'll walk away understanding the real mechanism behind your 3am wake-ups β€” plus a free guide to help you make sense of what your body's telling you next.
You deserve real answers. Come get them. πŸ’›

I had a patient tell me: "I eat like a rabbit and my waistline is still expanding." 🐰
She was doing everything "right" β€” salads, cutting the w**e, watching every calorie. And the scale kept climbing anyway.
If that's you, here's what I need you to hear: this isn't a willpower problem. It's a biochemistry problem. And there's one hormone almost nobody talks about that might be running the whole show. πŸ‘€
Everyone blames estrogen for menopause weight gain. Fair β€” it plays a role. But cortisol (your stress hormone) is the one that rarely makes it onto the whiteboard, and it might be the bigger lever for that stubborn belly fat specifically.
Here's the mechanism: progesterone is your natural cortisol buffer. It keeps your stress response in check. But progesterone is one of the first hormones to decline in perimenopause β€” so as it drops, cortisol runs higher and stays elevated longer. πŸ“ˆ
Chronically high cortisol:
πŸ”Ή Tells your body to store fat centrally (belly + organs)
πŸ”Ή Raises blood sugar on purpose, for "quick energy"
πŸ”Ή Spikes insulin β€” a fat-storing hormone
Now you're stuck in a loop: more cortisol β†’ more visceral fat β†’ more inflammation β†’ more insulin resistance β†’ more cortisol. πŸ”„
I had a patient (we'll call her Denise) convinced she had a thyroid problem. Her labs were perfect. But her cortisol pattern? Backwards β€” low in the morning, spiking at night. She was also doing intense workouts 4-5x/week on a restricted diet, adding fuel to the fire. πŸ”₯
We didn't restrict her further. We fixed her cortisol rhythm, adjusted her training, and got her eating MORE β€” she went from 1,300 to 1,800 calories. Within two months, her clothes fit differently. Not from eating less. Because her body finally felt safe. πŸ’›
So if you've been told to just try harder β€” hear this: you're not crazy, and you're not doing it wrong. Your body needs a different approach at this stage. Lower inflammatory foods, more protein, strength over chronic cardio, and real support for your stress hormones. πŸ’ͺ

Why You're Gaining Weight in Your Belly Despite Eating Clean (The Cortisol Connection)
You're eating less than you did in your 30s. You've cut the w**e, given up the sourdough, added the workouts. And somehow the scale won't budge β€” except your waistband, which has moved plenty, just in the wrong direction.
If you've ever caught yourself thinking "I must be lying to myself about what I eat"... I want to stop you right there. Because I'm about to show you the lab work that proves you're not lying, you're not lazy, and you're not broken.
Join Dr. Brooke Leverone β€” naturopathic doctor, hormone specialist, and competitive powerlifter β€” live as she breaks down the real hormone behind stubborn midsection weight in perimenopause and menopause. It's not the one you've been told to blame.
You'll learn:
βœ”οΈ Why cortisol β€” not just estrogen β€” drives belly fat at this stage of life
βœ”οΈ Why "eat less, exercise more" backfires for hormonal women
βœ”οΈ A real patient case: what her labs actually showed, and what changed her results (hint: it wasn't a stricter diet)
This is for the high-achieving woman who's done everything "right" and is tired of being told to just try harder.
You're not crazy. You're not lazy. You're missing information, not willpower.
