Today, we are attending Food is Medicine Advocacy Day 2026 on Capitol Hill to educate Congress on Food is Medicine.

Did you know poor diets are the leading cause of death and disability in the United States – even more than other common risk factors such as to***co use, alcohol and drug use, and physical inactivity? And yet a focus on nutrition is largely missing from the health care system.

Food is medicine—the integration into healthcare of food-based nutrition interventions to advance specific health needs—can play a critical role in addressing the growing disease burdens and costs associated with diet-related illnesses in communities across the nation.

Mama’s Kitchen is proud to be at the first annual FIMCON - Food Is Medicine Conference 2026!

Our CEO Eva Mathews, Chief Programs Officer Sandra D’Alonzo, Chief Finance Officer Kelly Sherlock, and Chief Development Officer Jenna Novotny are joining the our Food is Medicine Coalition nonprofit partners and more than 800 health care professionals, Food is Medicine experts, policymakers, community leaders, and funders in Washington, D.C., June 1–2.

FIMCON brings leaders together to advance nutrition-based care, from medically tailored meals to produce prescriptions.

We are proud to be a leader and contributor to the growing Food is Medicine movement and to gather with other leading voices to continue progressing and strengthening this critical work.

We're serving Chula Vista neighbors with critical illnesses, and soon... their pets, too!🐈🐕

With the Chula Vista Community Foundation's generous support, we will pilot our AniMeals program to serve our clients' pets in partnership with the Helen Woodward Animal Center.

When many struggle to secure food for their furry friends, it pushes our clients to choose between their furry friends and necessary nutrition. Because of the Chula Vista Community Foundation, Chula Vista clients won't have to make those difficult decisions. Thank you, Chula Vista Community Foundation! 🫶

Celebrating our Veterans with the Mayor of Chula Vista!

In honor of Military Appreciation Month, Chula Vista Mayor John McCann stopped by Mama’s Kitchen yesterday to visit with our CEO, Eva Matthews, and President-Elect April Heinze, a 23-year Navy veteran. His visit helped celebrate and shine a light on the healing nutrition we provide to veteran clients across our community.

Last year, Mama's Kitchen served 362 critically ill veterans, and with San Diego being a city with one of the highest veteran populations, we know there is more to do. We are grateful for Mayor McCann’s support as we continue working to better serve the veterans who have served our country.

🌶️ We turned up the heat last weekend🌶️

On Saturday, our team participated in the North Park Salsa Fest against 16 competitors and brought home the coveted "Spirit of the Fest" award!

We are so grateful to have had the opportunity to participate in this community event to fund programs for Jefferson Elementary. We look forward to bringing our best next year!
