Veterinary Dental Specialties & Oral Surgery Veterinary Dental Specialties and Oral Surgery (VDS) is the premier center of excellence for your animal’s oral care.

Our team of board-certified specialists do oral care and nothing else on dogs, cats, and exotics nationally and internationally! In veterinary medicine, pet dental care is still too often considered a nice-to-have. Yet oral health is the gateway—and often a predictor—of overall animal health. We are on a mission to bring the best, most comprehensive and cutting-edge oral health care to animals and their pet parents everywhere. At VDS we provide premium care at all of our locations in California, Nevada, Idaho, Florida, and the Gulf Coast. You can also get pet owner, vet and tech resources on our website and via our online and in-person classes.

A few images from our dentistry-in-an-evening dry lab conducted in Reno, Nevada, this weekend with Brook Niemiec ! Attendees learned how to do nerve blocks, take dental radiographs, sharpen instruments, and perform hand and ultrasonic scaling on skulls.

📢 Our level one weekend in San Diego was just announced for April 17 and 18th 2027. Visit our website or the classes link in bio for more information and to enroll.

👀 Also look for a similar dry lab early in 2027, to be announced.

🐾 A Crown Fit for a Hero! 👑🐕‍🦺

Our team at VDS Austin is honored to care for Officer Tyler’s K9 partner, Lucky from the Manor Police Department. We were excited to restore Lucky’s tooth with a crown and help get this hardworking K9 back to doing what she does best: protecting and serving our community! 💙

Thank you, Officer Tyler and Lucky, for your service. It was truly our privilege to be part of Lucky’s care!

Exciting news from VDS Dublin! 🐾

Our Dublin service is expanding to better serve pets, pet owners, and referring veterinary teams in the area.

As part of our commitment to advanced specialty care, VDS works with a board-certified veterinary anesthesiologist who develops our anesthesia protocols and is available to support and monitor higher-risk patients when needed.

And there’s more to come… 👀

Stay tuned for details about an upcoming VDS Dublin Open House. We look forward to welcoming you and showing you what’s new!

Small and toy breed dogs are particularly susceptible to periodontal disease, and problems can begin much earlier than many pet parents realize.

Understanding the risks, recognizing the signs, and staying proactive with professional dental care can make a significant difference in your dog’s comfort and long-term oral health.

The WSAVA - World Small Animal Veterinary Association Global Dental Guidelines have been published, providing veterinary professionals with a comprehensive resource for current standards in veterinary dentistry.

We’re especially proud that VDS’s own Dr. Brook Niemiec led the international group of experts who authored these guidelines.

Covering more than 100 pages, the guidelines address periodontal disease, oral pathology, dental radiology, extractions, anesthesia and pain management, preventive care, animal welfare, and more. They were created with general practitioners and veterinary teams in mind, making them an important resource for elevating dental care for pets everywhere.

📖 If you work in veterinary medicine, this is one to read, save and share with your team.
