Provided by our local Einstein Bros. of Hillcrest and La Jolla each week, bagels are generously donated and stored in the plastic bins of each Community Kitchen. Be sure to check the Community Refrigerator for cream cheese and butter to enjoy.

Families are stronger when they are together.

At our two San Diego sister locations in Hillcrest and La Jolla, families can create a community of healing in a loving environment. We provide all the comforts of home — a place to rest, a kitchen to prep meals or enjoy a volunteer-hosted meal, a spot to do laundry, and community spaces where guests can interact with other families experiencing similar challenges.

🎂 that La Jolla Family House is almost 6 years old already?

For our 5th Birthday Party, we were thrilled to invite the UC San Diego Health Department of Pharmacy to help us celebrate.

The team brought BBQ party essentials, we brought the cake, and we had a wonderful evening with guests and team members!

Our team member Dawn even joined in to help with the festivities!

We have served over 10,000 guests since we opened our doors in 2020 here in La Jolla. So many memories have been made under our roof, and we look forward to many more years of serving families receiving care at UC San Diego Health.

🍞🥚🧀Resource Highlight: Weekly Food Items

Each house receives a weekly food order from UC San Diego Health Nutrition Services. On Wednesdays, you can expect items such as eggs, milk, produce, bread and sandwich fixings. In addition, each house has a pantry that is often stocked with pasta, sauces, soups and baking ingredients. Items may fluctuate based on donations received from our generous partners and volunteers.

The Lazar Family returned to BFH for another incredible Host-A-Meal! We were so happy to see them back under our roof in Hillcrest to serve the guests breakfast.

This mother-son duo worked hard to create a homemade berry blend for freshly-prepared yogurt parfaits, prepared dozens of pancakes made fresh in our Kitchen, and they even brough Pressed Juice!

The homemade pancakes made for great conversation starters around the Dining Room table for families who had some time to share their stories - for the folks who had to rush to the hospital, though, it was a lifesaver to have bottled juice and individually-packaged parfaits with spoons to go.

These thoughtful touches made such a difference in meeting the needs of each and every guest in our home away from home. Thank you!
