ering at local animal rescues and helping find animals their fur-ever home. Tamara earned her degree in Dental Hygiene in 2009 from Cerritos College after having many years of experience in the dental field as a dental assistant. She enjoys her clinical experiences and educating about oral and systemic health. So, don’t forget to floss. Tamara’s journey into Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (OMT) began with her own personal and family experiences with orofacial dysfunction. Being tongue tied herself, she went through the therapy to eliminate her oral dysfunction. Upon finishing the program, the spark grew for her to continue with the OMT endeavors. In 2016, Tamara began exploring the field of OMT and with extensive training and education, she became a Certified Specialist in Orofacial Myology (CSOM). And in 2017, she opened Facial Physique. In 2020, she became a Myomentor Therapy Advisor to oversee and guide other professionals in OMT. Tamara enjoys working with all ages to improve oral function as it relates to breathing, facial development, and growth. Her passion is to help grow constant awareness in the community and is an advocate in bridging the gap between the medical and dental fields. She is an active member of the National Network of Healthcare Hygienists whose mission is to integrate oral health into medical care. Selina Preston CSOM~ Associate

Your tongue needs practice—not perfection. 👅✨

Consistent myofunctional exercises help improve low resting tongue posture by building the neuromuscular pathways needed for lasting change.

Small daily habits = big progress over time.

Grab your tooth brush & do this exercise along with Selina Preston. Drop a 🪥 comments if you’re giving this one a try!

If you checked off even one of these signs, it may be time to schedule a myofunctional therapy consultation 👇

✔️ Difficulty breathing through your nose
✔️ Limited tongue mobility
✔️ Need Sleep apnea or sleep-disordered breathing support
✔️ Diagnosed with Tongue thrust
✔️ A narrow dental arch or crowded teeth

These signs are often connected by one thing: how the muscles of your mouth, tongue, and face are functioning. Many people spend years treating symptoms without realizing that muscle function can play an important role in breathing, sleep, oral development, and overall quality of life.

A comprehensive myofunctional evaluation helps identify whether oral muscle dysfunction may be contributing to what you’re experiencing and provides guidance on the next best steps.

✨ Keep in mind: Myofunctional therapy is often one piece of the puzzle. Depending on your individual needs, we may also recommend evaluation or treatment with other healthcare providers such as an ENT, dentist, orthodontist, sleep physician, speech-language pathologist, or another specialist. The goal is collaborative care—not a one-size-fits-all approach.
If you’ve been searching for answers, this could be a great place to start.

Think myofunctional therapy only happens during appointments? Think again!

This quick exercise targets mid-tongue mobility while keeping the jaw completely stable—because jaw stability is just as important as tongue strength.

Why does it matter?
✨ Improves mid-tongue mobility
✨ Encourages better soft palate function
✨ Reinforces tongue independence instead of letting the jaw compensate
✨ Builds the muscle patterns needed for proper oral function

The best results come from consistent practice, even if it’s just a few minutes in the car on the way home.

Plot twist: your tongue has been the main character this whole time 👅🎬

If you’re dealing with mouth breathing, tongue thrust, or jaw tension — it’s not random. It’s function. And function can be retrained.

Myofunctional therapy isn’t a trend, it’s a root-cause approach to how you breathe, swallow, and rest your tongue every single day. We coach clients through it because small daily habits = real structural change over time.

📌 Save this if you’ve ever been told “mouth breathing isn’t a big deal” with zero explanation of how it can affect your health.

Breaking an oral habit isn’t about expecting perfection—it’s about building consistency, confidence, and celebrating progress along the way.

One of Selina Preston favorite milestones in her Oral Habit Elimination Program is reaching the halfway point. To celebrate all of the hard work, they made matching bracelets together—one for the child, one for Mom, and one for herself! 💚

Why? Because lasting behavior change happens when children feel encouraged, supported, and proud of the progress they’re making. Small celebrations help keep motivation high and remind kids that every healthy choice is a step toward long-term success.

Every child is different, which is why this program is structured to provide guidance, accountability, and positive reinforcement throughout the habit elimination journey. The goal isn’t just to help eliminate an oral habit—it’s to help children develop healthy patterns they can carry with them for years to come.

If you’d like more information about how the oral habit elimination program works, what it includes, or whether it’s a good fit for your child, send us a DM or leave a 💚 in the comments!

Hint: It’s not just about making bracelets. 💚

Tomorrow, I’ll share why this celebration is such a meaningful part of our Oral Habit Elimination Program and how positive reinforcement helps keep kids motivated throughout their journey.

✨ Sometimes the smallest celebrations create the biggest confidence.

Struggling to breathe through your nose at night? Let’s fix that. 👃💤

Nasal dilators are a simple, non-invasive tool we recommend to help open your airway and support nasal breathing while you sleep — and there are two types worth knowing:
✔️ External dilators (like Mute Snoring ) — sit on the outside of your nose and physically lift the nasal valve open
✔️ Internal dilators (like Intake Breathing ) — insert just inside the nostrils to expand the airway from within

Better nasal breathing at night can mean less snoring, deeper sleep, and waking up actually rested. If you’ve been a mouth breather your whole life, this is one small change that can make a big difference.

Not sure which one is right for you? That’s exactly what we help you figure out in a consult. 👇 click the link in bio to save 15% off Intake Breathing & schedule a consultation today!

As a myofunctional therapist, I look at summer routines a bit differently. The sun, the pool, and even your favorite cold drinks are all perfect opportunities to optimize your airway health, jaw development, and facial muscle tone!

Your tongue and facial muscles dictate how you breathe and thrive. By making a few intentional shifts during your outdoor days, you can build incredible muscle habits that support your long-term health.

🌊 Clear the Chlorine: Pool water can cause nasal congestion. Rinse your sinuses daily to prevent seasonal stuffiness from turning into a long-term mouth-breathing habit.
👅 Level Up Tongue Control: Turn summer treats into an oral motor workout! Lick a melted popsicle off your lips using ONLY your tongue to build mobility and range of motion.
☀️ Optimize with Vitamin D: Get outside! Morning sun exposure delivers Vitamin D, a crucial nutrient required for strong jaw bones and optimal airway muscle tone.
🥤 Sip Mindfully Outside: Drinking through a straw on your water bottle requires a strong lip seal and forces your tongue to retract and elevate.

💬 Which of these 4 summer shifts are you trying first? Drop a 🌊, 👅, ☀️, or 🥤 in the comments below!
