Yvette Currie, LMFT, works w/Anxiety, financial angst, Military, Conflict Resolution, and Trauma, using emotional regulation, resilience, & faith based upon request. My clientele enjoy adding to their distinct personal arsenal of success oriented skills - they are not broken. Occasionally, any one of us can lose sight of what it is we uniquely have to offer. We can get fiercely myopic and tunnel visioned, especially in the wake of a loss, a disappointment, or a tragedy. We tend to forget about our vast assets. I'd like to help your remember what works best with the way you are constructed, from the inside out, how to retain it, and consistently apply it; ideally, we'll enhance what is already working and take it to the next level. As a San Diego native, I am familiar with the unique communities here, resources, contacts, and networks. Living in a variety of countries, as well, I have cultivated perspective inside and outside the US. Working as a civilian within the military, serving aboard an aircraft carrier, as well as a medical ship, has opened and sharpened my perspective even further. Wherever you are on the wellness spectrum - seeking fine tuning, a tune up, or a complete overhaul, waiting until tomorrow, will be a day later. Let's DO this. "The sculpture is already complete within the marble block, before I start my work. It is already there, I just have to chisel away the superfluous material.” ― Michelangelo

The Sacred Coming Together for Sport.

In a time of deep perceived divisions—often amplified even within our own homes and communities—we are frequently told that the rifts between us are insurmountable. Yet major global sporting events like the FIFA World Cup reveal something profound about human nature: an innate capacity to set aside differences and celebrate shared humanity.

The following is a highlighter of the psychology of sport as a powerful, natural unifier. It examines how sports provide a "free pass" to experience pride in our identities (such as wrapping oneself in the American flag and cheering passionately), while simultaneously fostering brotherhood, sisterhood, emotional openness, and connection across boundaries. Fans hug strangers, clink glasses and sing together, share collective joy and grief, drop pretenses, and bond over eyes- wide- as- saucers, mouths- wide- and- mouthing "Can you believe it?" moments. We organically focus on our universal commonality - rooting for the same team, rather than our potential myriad of differences.

This discussion is an encouragement to observe real-world examples from international competitions, fan behaviors, and everyday sports fandom. While there still will be poorly behaved individuals, there will also be the surfacing of our shared humanity. As FIFA season approaches (or during any major sporting event, for that matter), this serves as a timely reminder that we can come together, see one another, and transcend divides—even outside of sports—by tapping into these natural human tendencies. During that sporting event, the person to your left or right, might be on the left or right, worship differently, or date differently.

If we can do it for FIFA, we can do it at CVS, the gas station, and the stoplight, among other places. Viewing our similarities or viewing our differences is a choice. Let's set up a time to strategize how to actually do this.

Mai Tai's for Life?

Are Mai Tai's for life chilling on a beach really the optimal outcome, when choosing retirement?

When Yale Professor Dr. Laurie Santos discussed happiness top 10 tips at the Navy Seal Foundation conference - she discussed "Flow State" drawing from Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi; this is often applied to athletic performance and she defines it as losing track of time while pressing to the limit. She also describes it as challenging yourself, while using our personally honed skill set.

This could explain why retirement and mortality rates are highly correlated. Case in point, just sitting on the couch or retiring on a beach and drinking Mai Tai's for life, don't put us into "flow." However, encouragingly, even on days off, flow state can be achieved and that maximize that relaxation time.

To be clear: flow state is also not immersing in video games for (3) days. While losing track of time, this isn't employing something unique within us that presses forward - passionately. We are not on this planet as mere consumers - we have something individuated, only we can provide. We are creators. Creativity often lies in a dormant state, but it lies within us all.

As Ralph Waldo Emerson said "The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well."
