Nice intro.
But I'm not so sure that channa was not there before the Portuguese came to India. I think linking to Europe is an age old trope of whitewashing our past.
Anyway, I like that the story of Misti is spreading. There are so many varieties, rest of India is not aware of, what to say about rest of the world.

I made some Begun Basanti last night. I wanted to add fried Bori to the dish. I fried them, and put them on the side. But I kept snacking on them while cooking and soon almost all were gone! 😛
I know traditionally this is taken with hot warm rice, but I like to have this with rotis.
