Resurfacing this video because I am hoping to attend the ICSC conference in San Diego May 10-11 2024 to learn more about scleral lenses!

Although I have always been interested in scleral lenses, I have not had a chance to attend this excellent meeting. After completing my cornea and contact lens residency, I have absolutely adored getting to know the specialty contact lens community and cannot wait to meet new people at this conference. The people are often what makes this profession great.

Now that I am practicing at Pacific Eye Doctors in Maple Ridge, I am hoping to bring my training to the communities in the outskirts of the lower mainland. This will allow for increased access to care for those who are unable to travel into the city. This meeting will provide me with an update on new scleral lens technologies and the various conditions we can manage with this lens. I cannot wait to bring back to Canada what I learn!

Shoutout to for finding me when I was just an optometry student, hoping to be a part of this fun and educational podcast! A couple months late but here is my most recent episode where we look back at some of my embarrassing moments, discussing my residency experience, and where I am now. “Started from the bottom now we here”.

This week’s topic: Scleral Lenses.
This week is my American Academy of Optometry Fellowship Oral Exam! I selected one of the articles I used in my case report and it discusses the effect of different Dk material values on the physiology of the eye. In short, the higher the Dk, the less corneal edema is present after 8h of wear. For lens materials over Dk 100, edema is correlated with the fluid reservoir. Oxygen consumption was reduced when the Dk was less than or equal to 125 Dk. Best comfort was experience with the highest Dk (180).

How often do you use the most optimal lens material?

9th Annual Residency Summit 🎉 .
Sometimes you meet people and you just know they’ll be with you for the rest of your life. This year, I have the residency to thank for the chance to meet these beautiful souls. Apparently, I have earned the name of “ring leader” but I can confidently say that each of these guys deserve their own titles:
: East coast grandma chic.
: Instigator.
: Everyone’s bestie.klausy : Fave jokester.
: Momma bear.
: Fearless open book.
: Piccolo ambassador.
& : Snuggle puddle.
And many many more…
Thanks for being nothing but yourselves. See y’all at the next conference and then throughout the rest of our careers.
Shoutout to for hosting us and setting an example of what a genuine, friendly, and honest company looks like. We loved getting to know you and by extension, the families too! 👨‍👩‍👦

Cornea and Contact Lens Residency completed! Officially part of the CL family and I could NOT have asked for a better year full of traveling and lifelong friends (, my rock). Lots of catch up on and I will be doing so in the next couple of weeks on this page! Take a look at my first day and my last 🥲.

🔬 》Issue 17.
This week’s topic: Orthokeratolgy.
There is increased interest in treatment zone size and effect on myopia control. A study out of Hong Kong Polytechnic showed that a 5mm optic zone size created a smaller treatment zone. This correlated positively with an increased effect in slowing axial length over one year.

How often do you think about optic zone size? Personally, I rarely did!
