Leaving the military doesn't mean starting over. 💪

As one of the nation's strongest military communities, we are proud to partner with the Department of Defense SkillBridge program by welcoming two new SkillBridge EMTs. The DoD SkillBridge program gives transitioning service members such as Michael Means and Samuel Amador the opportunity to gain valuable civilian career experience during their final 180 days of military service.

By continuing their service in EMS, Michael and Samuel already reflect our core behavior of Keeping Care at the Center, putting people first both in and out of uniform.

👏EVOC Excellence👏

Sometimes the people making the biggest difference are the ones quietly putting in the extra effort every day.

This week, the EVOC team recognized and celebrated two individuals who have gone above and beyond: Ivan Joya-Tolentino and Paul Maxwell II.

Ivan’s leadership, mentorship, and genuine willingness to support both instructors and students help create an environment where everyone can learn and succeed. Meanwhile, Paul, although one of the EVOC team’s newer instructors, has quickly become a standout through his dedication, team-first mindset, and consistent support of both students and fellow instructors.

From mentoring to handling behind-the-scenes tasks without hesitation, they exemplify our core behaviors of Keeping Care at the Center and Finding a Way Together. Through their teamwork, dedication and commitment to our EVOC team, they help ensure our employees have the support, training, and resources needed to stay safe on the streets every day.

👏 Congratulations, EMT Paige Pira! 👏

Please join us in congratulating Paige Pira, Employee of the Quarter for our IFT Division!

Paige will celebrate two years with AMR this September and has already made a lasting impact on our team. In addition to serving as an EMT, Paige is an FTO, an EVOC Instructor, and helps conduct interviews for new EMT candidates each month.

Born and raised in Oceanside, California, Paige earned an EMT certification from MiraCosta College. Inspired by several family members in public safety, Paige entered EMS to gain patient care experience before pursuing PA school.

What Paige enjoys most about EMS is connecting with patients and the fact that no two days are ever the same. Paige also values the amazing partners at AMR and the many opportunities available for EMTs to grow and develop professionally.

Outside of work, Paige is an avid reader and has a gymnastics background.

For those considering EMS, Paige offers this advice:
"Know your protocols and be open to learning!"

At AMR San Diego, our commitment to the community extends far beyond emergency response. We’re proud to spotlight our Community Outreach Team—a dedicated group working across all corners of San Diego County to build healthier, safer, and more prepared communities.

From schools and community events to health fairs and public safety demonstrations, this team averages more than three events every week, connecting with thousands of residents throughout the year.

One of their biggest accomplishments in 2025 was the Hands-Only Heroes Program, which empowered more than 11,000 people with the lifesaving skills needed to perform Hands-Only CPR. By teaching community members how to recognize cardiac arrest and take immediate action, the team is helping create more potential lifesavers throughout San Diego County.

⚽ Hands Only Heroes Takes the Pitch! ⚽

The AMR San Diego Community Education Team recently brought our long-running Hands Only Heroes campaign to a San Diego Wave FC match, teaching hands-only CPR to kids, families, and fans throughout the event.

We'd like to thank San Diego Wave FC for helping us share this lifesaving skill with the community. CPR is simple to learn, and when performed quickly during a cardiac emergency, it can save a life.

At AMR San Diego, we're committed to creating more lifesavers in the communities we serve—one set of hands at a time. ❤️🚑

🚑 Always training to be prepared 🚑

Recently, AMR San Diego joined our partners at REACH Air Medical Services, Del Mar & Solana Beach Fire Department, Rancho Santa Fe Fire Protection District, Encinitas Fire and Marine Safety Department, the San Diego County Sheriff's Office, and the Rancho Santa Fe Association Patrol for a three-day training exercise focused on simulated Mass Casualty Incidents (MCIs) at a local school.

Throughout the drill, first responders worked through multiple realistic scenarios designed to test communication, coordination, triage, patient treatment, and transportation during large-scale emergencies. While we hope these types of incidents never occur, training together is critical to ensuring we are prepared to respond quickly, effectively, and as one team when our communities need us most.

At AMR San Diego, preparedness is at the heart of what we do. Exercises like these strengthen the partnerships that help keep our communities safe and ensure that every agency understands its role during a major incident.

A huge thank you to all participating agencies, volunteers, evaluators, and support personnel who helped make this exercise a tremendous success. We are proud to train alongside such dedicated public safety partners and remain committed to providing the highest level of care and service to the communities we serve.

💦 Learn to swim and ensure children receive proper instruction
💦 Be prepared—know basic lifesaving skills, including CPR

AMR San Diego remembers Randolph Mantooth.

Through his iconic role as firefighter-paramedic Johnny Gage on Emergency!, Randolph Mantooth inspired millions of viewers and helped introduce an entire generation to the EMS profession. For many EMTs and paramedics, the show gave them their first glimpse into a career dedicated to helping others.

What made his impact even more meaningful was that he never stopped supporting EMS. Long after Emergency! ended, Mantooth remained a passionate advocate for EMTs, paramedics, and firefighters—attending conferences, promoting first responder health and safety, and championing the profession he helped bring into the spotlight.

His legacy lives on in the countless EMS professionals he inspired to answer the call.

Thank you, Randolph Mantooth. Rest easy. 🚑❤️
