: Overdoses are still soaring (although fatal overdoses are down).

As many of us suspected when NIDA announced the lower drug deaths earlier this year, the actual numbers of overdoses has continued to climb.

The overdose reversal drug plays a role in this and that is why anyone who knows someone who might be at risk of an accidental overdose (and this encompasses everyone who is obtaining pills illegally) should keep it handy. Heck, anyone who works or spends time around teens/20-somethings might find themselves in a situation where they could save a life if they had it.

: A new synthetic opioid called cychlorphine is turning up in the illicit/counterfeit drug supply and might cause overdose beyond what Narcan can revive, although they are still gathering info about it.

: Meeting Your Loved One "Where They Are"

This phrase describes an approach that family members can take in order to support their recovery, but it is a little counterintuitive because it describes stopping trying to "fix" the person and provide solutions, and rather, seeking to understand them and let them arrive at a willingness to accept help and change on their own timeline.
