What is Mindful Self-Compassion?

Mindful Self-Compassion is the practice of treating yourself with the same kindness, understanding, and support that you would offer a good friend. It combines mindfulness, which helps us notice our thoughts and feelings without judgment, with self-compassion, which encourages us to respond to our struggles with care rather than criticism.

In a world that often pushes us to do more and be more, mindful self-compassion reminds us that being human means being imperfect. When we learn to meet our challenges with kindness, we build greater resilience, emotional well-being, and inner strength.

💙 Be gentle with yourself today. You don’t have to be perfect to be worthy of compassion.

Shame often tells us we’re alone, but self-compassion reminds us we’re human. 💙

In this guided Self-Compassion for Shame practice, Chris Germer invites us to meet our struggles with kindness rather than self-criticism.

If this resonates, join Chris on September 9 for Exchanging Self-Criticism for Self-Compassion, a live workshop exploring practical tools for transforming our inner dialogue and cultivating greater emotional resilience.

Ready to go deeper? Our MSC Graduate-Level 8-Week Course: Self-Compassion for Shame begins October 21, offering an immersive journey into understanding and healing shame through the lens of Mindful Self-Compassion.

“You mean I don’t need to believe everything I say to myself?”

Many of us live with a harsh inner critic, assuming it helps us improve. Yet self-compassion is often the more effective path to growth, resilience, and well-being.

Join Chris Germer, co-developer of Mindful Self-Compassion, for an interactive online workshop where you’ll learn how to shift from self-criticism to self-compassion using the PEACE process and practical exercises you can use long after the workshop ends.

Mid-Week Mindful Self-Compassion Reset 🌿

Feeling the weight of the week already?

Midweek can be the perfect time to pause, take a breath, and reconnect with yourself. Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) reminds us that we don’t have to push through stress, overwhelm, or self-criticism alone. Instead, we can meet ourselves with the same kindness, understanding, and care that we would offer a good friend.

This week, consider giving yourself a mindful reset:
✨ Pause and breathe.
✨ Notice what you’re carrying.
✨ Offer yourself a moment of compassion.
✨ Create space for stillness amidst the noise.

If you’re looking for a deeper experience of this kind of reset, we highly recommend “Touching the Still Point: A Taste of Silent Retreat” with Noriko Morita Harth on August 26. This mini-retreat offers an opportunity to step away from daily distractions, settle into quiet reflection, and experience the restorative power of mindfulness and self-compassion in community.
Sometimes, the most productive thing we can do is slow down enough to listen.
