Menopause is more than hot flashes. 🌿

This World Menopause Day, let's talk about the symptoms that don't always get the attention they deserve.

For many women, the transition through perimenopause and menopause brings changes that extend far beyond hot flashes and night sweats.

🌙 Sleep: Restless nights, frequent waking, or waking up exhausted despite spending eight hours in bed.

🦴 Joint & muscle pain: New aches, persistent stiffness, or discomfort that seems to appear out of nowhere.

💭 Mood: Increased anxiety, irritability, or a sense of not quite feeling like yourself.

🌸 Overall well-being: Fatigue, brain fog, and a body that suddenly seems to respond differently to stress.

Hormonal changes can influence sleep, pain sensitivity, and emotional well-being. And when sleep suffers, everything else can feel more difficult.
But these changes don't mean you simply have to push through.
At Flowers Wellness, we take a whole-person approach to supporting women through this transition.

🌿 Acupuncture can help relieve certain menopausal symptoms, support relaxation, and improve sleep quality.

🤲 Therapeutic massage can ease muscular tension, promote relaxation, and provide comfort when your body feels achy or overwhelmed.

🌱 Individualized Chinese herbal formulas gently rebalance the body’s hormonal rhythms, treating the root imbalance rather than just masking symptoms.

Menopause is a natural transition. Suffering in silence doesn't have to be part of it.
✨ You deserve to feel heard, supported, and comfortable in your body at every stage of life.

Acupuncture + Massage: Better Together 🌿✨

Ever wonder what happens when you pair two of the most time-tested healing practices? The results can be greater than the sum of their parts.

💆‍♀️ Massage works from the outside in, releasing tight muscles, easing tension, improving circulation, and calming the nervous system.

🌸 Acupuncture works from the inside out, helping regulate the body's systems, reduce inflammation, support pain relief, and restore balance.

✨ Why combine them?

🌿 Massage softens tight tissue, so acupuncture can work more deeply.
🧘 Acupuncture helps calm the nervous system, so your body holds onto the benefits of massage longer.
💪 Faster recovery from injury, overuse, and training.
🌙 Deeper relaxation and better sleep.
💚 Relief for both the physical and emotional side of stress.
Whether you're a dancer, an athlete, or just carrying the weight of a busy life in your shoulders, this combination helps your body reset on every level. ✨

At Flowers Wellness in Rancho Bernardo, our acupuncture and massage team work side by side, so you can experience the benefits of both under one roof.

🍂 Fall skin is thirsty skin.

As the air cools and humidity drops (hello, Santa Ana winds 👋), your skin loses water faster than it does in Summer. You might notice tightness after cleansing, flaky patches, dullness, or new sensitivity to products you've always loved.
That's your skin barrier asking for support.

✨ What is the skin barrier?
Think of it as a brick wall: skin cells are the bricks, and natural lipids (ceramides, cholesterol, fatty acids) are the mortar. When that mortar thins, moisture escapes and irritants get in. The result is dryness, redness, and reactivity.

🌿 How we repair it
Our esthetician Jewel shifts clients into a barrier-supportive routine this time of year using Botnia, a plant-based line hand-crafted in small batches in Sausalito, CA.

Botnia's philosophy treats skincare like nutrition, and its founder, esthetician Justine Kahn, follows her own seasonal approach: in Fall and Winter she switches to a barrier-focused routine built around an oil cleanser, a seasonal hydrosol, a hydrating serum, and a daily moisturizer to protect against water loss in drier months and repair Summer sun exposure.

Jewel's Fall barrier tips:
💧 Cleanse gently, with Botnia balancing oil cleanser .
💧 Use a Toner, such as the Botnia Rose water toner.
💧 Layer hydration: Mist Botnia hydrosol and use the Botnia Hydrating serum.
💧 Moisturize to protect: Use the Botnia Daily Face Cream to support your barrier and help prevent water loss.
💧 Keep up the SPF; San Diego sun doesn't take a Fall break ☀️

Book a Fall barrier-repair facial with Jewel and leave with a custom Botnia routine for the season ahead.

🌧️ Why does arthritis feel worse when the weather changes?

🌿 Happy World Arthritis Day!

If your knees, hands, or back can "predict" a storm, you're not imagining it. Many people with arthritis notice more pain and stiffness when the weather turns cold, damp, or the barometric pressure drops.

Chinese medicine has recognized this connection for thousands of years. It calls joint pain "Bi syndrome," a blockage of circulation in the joints, often triggered or worsened by wind, cold, damp, or heat.

🍃 That's why we don't treat every achy joint the same way. We look at your pattern:

❄️ Cold: Feels better with heat, worse in cold weather; that points to a Cold pattern.
🔥 Heat: Red, warm, or swollen joints that feel worse with heat; that suggests a Heat pattern.
💧 Damp: Heavy, swollen, and worse on rainy or humid days; that's a Damp pattern.
🌬️ Wind: Pain that moves from joint to joint; that's a Wind pattern.
⏰ Stiffest first thing in the morning, or worse with activity and by the end of the day.

Each tells us something different about what your body needs.
Two people with the same diagnosis can need completely different treatments.

🌿 At Flowers Wellness, your plan may include:

📍 Acupuncture to ease pain and improve circulation to stiff joints
💆 Massage to release the muscles that tighten around painful areas
🌱 Custom herbal formulas chosen for your specific pattern
🧴 Evil Bone Water liniment and Tibetan herbal foot soaks from , warming topical support you can use at home between visits

💚 Your joints are telling you a story. Let's listen.

Stress doesn't just live in your head. 🧠➡️💪

This World Mental Health Day, let's talk about where stress actually goes: into your body.

When stress becomes chronic, your nervous system can get stuck in "fight or flight." Over time, that can show up as:

🌙 Trouble falling or staying asleep
😣 Tight shoulders, a clenched jaw, a stiff neck
💭 Shallow breathing and a racing mind
🌀 Headaches, digestive upset, and feeling wired but tired

Your mind and body aren't separate systems. They're in constant conversation. That's why caring for your mental health can start with caring for your body.

🌿 At Flowers Wellness, we use acupuncture and therapeutic massage to help calm the nervous system, encourage "rest and digest," release muscle tension, and support deeper, more restorative sleep.

Many patients tell us it's the first time in weeks they've felt their body truly let go.

✨ This weekend, give yourself permission to pause. Your body has been carrying a lot. 💚

✨ From skeptic to a story she never expected to tell.

When A.S. first came to Flowers Wellness, she had been trying to conceive for nearly four years. Her journey had included multiple fertility clinics, IUIs, IVF, lifestyle changes, supplements, and even pursuing egg donation.

She was also carrying the physical toll of prolonged stress — inflammation, joint pain, persistent jaw pain, and the emotional weight that can come with a long fertility journey.

Acupuncture was completely new to her, and she admits she wasn’t convinced it was for her.

But what stood out to A.S. was Laura’s approach: listening deeply, looking at the whole person, and taking the time to understand not only her fertility journey, but everything she was experiencing physically and emotionally.

Over time, A.S. noticed meaningful changes in how she felt — her joint pain improved, her jaw pain disappeared, her stress decreased, and she felt an overall improvement in her well-being.

And then came the news she never expected:

✨ After nearly four years of fertility treatments and interventions, she conceived naturally.

Today, A.S. is pregnant, and Laura continues to support her through this new chapter. 🤍
We are deeply grateful to A.S. for allowing us to share such a personal and beautiful story.

🌿 “I went into acupuncture as a skeptic. My experience with Laura has been genuinely transformative in my life.” — A.S.

✨ Your microneedling treatment doesn't end when you leave Flowers Wellness.

Microneedling creates thousands of tiny channels through the skin's protective outer layer. For the next 48 hours, your skin absorbs whatever touches it more deeply, which makes proper aftercare especially important.

🌿 That's why every session at Flowers Wellness ends with the YINA Divine Biocellulose Multi-Correctional Mask.
Saturated with a concentrated botanical serum, it cocoons freshly treated skin in cooling hydration while the biocellulose sheet helps deliver its benefits evenly.

To continue your renewal at home, you'll also leave with an AcuLift Skincare Take-Home Kit, chosen specifically for those important first few days.
Inside your kit:

💧 Superb Serum
Hyaluronic acid and collagen-supporting ingredients deeply hydrate and nourish. Its vitamin C comes from calcium ascorbate (Ester-C), a gentle, stable form selected for post-microneedling skin to provide brightening and antioxidant benefits without the irritation associated with L-ascorbic acid.

🌿 Calm Cooling Mist
An arnica-infused mist to cool and soothe freshly treated skin and help calm the appearance of redness.

✨ Ageless Cream
A nourishing moisturizer with plant stem cell ingredients to lock in hydration and support the skin barrier as it recovers.

🤍 The AcuLift aftercare system is gentle, vegan and thoughtfully formulated for post-microneedling skin—so you don't have to wonder, “What am I supposed to put on my face now?”

Your treatment includes not only your microneedling session, but also the at-home care you need for the days that follow.

🌸 Because beautiful results deserve thoughtful aftercare.

❤️ Happy World Heart Day!

Your heart works around the clock, and stress can make it work harder.
Chronic stress keeps the body in “fight or flight,” which can contribute to tight muscles, shallow breathing, poor sleep, and a body that has a harder time fully relaxing.

This is where acupuncture and massage can offer support:

🌿 Acupuncture can help shift the nervous system out of stress mode and toward “rest and digest.” Many patients report feeling calmer, sleeping better, and noticing that the tension they’ve been carrying begins to release.

🤲 Massage eases muscular tension, encourages healthy blood flow, and gives your body a chance to slow down. In Chinese medicine, we think of healthy circulation as the free flow of qi and blood—and stress is one of the factors that can disrupt that flow.

Caring for your heart isn’t just about what happens in a cardiologist’s office. It’s also about how you manage stress, rest, and move through your everyday life. ❤️

✨ Try this today: Take 5 slow breaths—in through your nose for 4 counts and out for 6—with one hand over your heart. Notice what softens.

Acupuncture and massage complement your regular medical care. Keep up with your checkups, talk with your doctor about your heart health, and come see us for support in managing stress and caring for your overall wellness.

🍂 Don’t Wait Until You’re Sick to Support Your Immune System.

In Chinese medicine, preparing for cold and flu season doesn’t begin with the first sniffle. It begins before you get sick. 🌿

As we move into Fall, the body has to adapt to cooler temperatures, drier air, shorter days, and more time spent indoors. For some people, that seasonal transition is exactly when they start noticing the familiar pattern: a scratchy throat, congestion, fatigue — or catching every bug that seems to be going around.
This is where Chinese herbal medicine can be especially valuable.

🌱 Rather than reaching for the same “immune boosting” herbs for everyone, Chinese medicine looks at your individual pattern. Do you tend to feel run-down? Get frequent respiratory infections? Have lingering coughs or congestion? Feel especially affected by cold or dry weather?

The goal is to identify where your body may need support before the season puts it to the test.

At Flowers Wellness, Dr. Laura Flowers uses customized Chinese herbal formulas drawn from our extensive on-site herbal pharmacy. Your formula is created for you — and can be adjusted as your needs change throughout the season.

✨ Because the best time to prepare for cold and flu season is before it arrives.

🍂 The Fall Equinox (Qiu Fen) is one of the times of year when Yang and Yin are balanced, with equal day and night. ☯️

From here, the days grow shorter and energy turns inward. ✨

🌿 In Chinese medicine, Fall is related to the Metal element, which connects to the Lungs and the skin. It's a time to harvest, reflect, and let go of what you no longer need to carry. 🍁

🤎 Use this Equinox to exhale, slow down, simplify, and nourish what matters most in your life.

Seasonal shifts can show up in the body as dryness, sniffles, or restless sleep. If you'd like support, link in bio to book. 🌿
