Can you see yourself, standing at the head of the table, facing a spread so delightful you can feel the childlike wonder rise from the pit of your empty belly? And then you hear the voice, the inner critic that reminds you about the scale and those jeans and then shames you for the size of your pile of stuffing and second slice of pie.
The truth is, sharing food and creating something special from simple ingredients is a part of being human. One very essential nutrient is joy and joy is squashed by shame and fear. It distracts from what really matters during this holiday:
đGratitude to Mother Earth for the bounty of the harvest
đJoining together in peace and harmony
đSharing traditions
đCreating a culinary delight from humble ingredients greater than the sum of its parts
Today and for the rest of the season, I invite you to be kind, to be present and to make memories. Release the dogma that treats are bad and you are bad for wanting them. You are human and this is a magical time.
Cook with whole foods, cook with love, savor each bite and enJOY!
With love,
Dr. Starr
