I’ve been watching the conversation around GLP-1 medications, “Ozempic Face” and skin aging closely and now we have our first in vivo human data that begins to explain why it’s happening.

Our new study published in Dermatologic Surgery found that patients on GLP-1 receptor agonist therapy had approximately four times fewer adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) in their subcutaneous tissue compared to untreated individuals. These are the regenerative cells responsible for skin renewal, collagen support, and dermal repair, and their depletion may represent a distinct aging pathway beyond weight loss alone.

This isn’t about the medication being “bad.” It’s about understanding what’s happening at a cellular level in different tissues so we can care for these patients better.
Swipe for what this means for your skin.

There is so much to learn when we teach, especially when I have the opportunity to learn from some of the brightest minds across the globe 🌎

I’m honored to have been invited to share how I educate on two topics I’m deeply passionate about: the hormonal influences on the aesthetic patient during perimenopause and menopause, and medication-induced weight loss.

Sometimes, it’s the conversations during rehearsals, coffee breaks, and dinners where I learn the most and find inspiration for future directions in aesthetics.

Ciao, Roma 🇮🇹 until we meet again.

Better skin in your 50s than in your 30s while going through menopause - is possible!!

Here’s what’s helped her maintain a natural, refreshed look over time and has supported her facial tissue health :

✨ neuromodulator to the upper and lower face
✨ Conservative pan-facial filler to soften transitions while preserving femininity and balance
✨ TAKE 10 to address crepiness around the eyes and soften lines around the mouth
✨ Photofractional Lite for tone, paired with a fully ablative eyelid laser every ~4 years for targeted eyelid rejuvenation
✨ Annual Ultherapy to support collagen, skin firmness, and definition through the neck and jawline
✨ twice a day to keep her skin dewy and more even tone to counteract the increase in cortisol that comes on with menopause

One of the things I love most about aesthetic medicine is that it sits at the intersection of science, psychology, artistry, and human connection.

We are living in an extraordinary time where we can better understand aging at the level of the skin… exploring regeneration, prevention, biohacking longevity, and helping patients feel empowered in their own biology.

But alongside every treatment plan, every technology, and every scientific advancement is something equally important: curiosity about the person sitting in front of you.

Curiosity about their goals. Their story. Their confidence. Their experience of moving through the world.

I’ve found that some of the greatest professional growth comes from continuing to pull on those strings of curiosity. Because behind each question is more learning. More perspective. More wonder.

The future of aesthetic medicine is not only about what we can do for the skin but how we combine innovation with compassion, evidence with empathy, and expertise with humanity.
That, to me, is where the magic lives. 🤍

Why does addressing one aesthetic concern sometimes make another suddenly appear?
This phenomenon is known as “Perception Drift,” a concept I published on in 2019 exploring how aesthetic treatments, visual adaptation, and self-perception can influence the way we see ourselves. 💋
As we recognize , it’s important to remember that aesthetic medicine can affect patients not only at the level of the skin, but also across the psychological and social dimensions of wellbeing.
Patients experiencing Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) or body image concerns deserve thoughtful, attentive care grounded in medicine, ethics, and human understanding,  not simply a transactional exchange.
Swipe to learn more about Perception Drift, how it may present clinically, and how providers can thoughtfully care for patients experiencing shifts in aesthetic perception.

The décolletage doesn’t lie… which is exactly why I love treating it!

13 years later, my beautiful patient is 50, yet her skin looks younger today than it did 13 years ago. Over the course of her journey with me, she’s had 4 photofractional laser treatments, proving that thoughtful, consistent treatments can support beautiful skin at every age… even through menopause. ✨

What should you actually put on your skin before, during, and after a procedure? I teamed up with 14 colleagues around the world to find out.

In a simplified Delphi study, we evaluated 44 active ingredients across four types of procedures — ablative energy-based, non-ablative energy-based, and non-energy-based treatments both with and without skin barrier disruption.

We looked at every stage: pretreatment, peri-treatment, aftercare, and follow-up at one week or more post-procedure.

The results are worth the read!

Years later, and not only does this beauty look younger… she looks prettier.
That’s the real goal of an aesthetic journey, especially for patients on GLP-1s, where changes in facial fat and adipose tissue can influence facial volume, skin quality, and the overall appearance of aging.
The goal isn’t to chase youth. It’s to thoughtfully support your natural beauty over time.
Because chasing youth can sometimes lead to unnatural results, while consistent, intentional treatments in the right hands help you look refreshed, balanced, and still like you.
Her journey included:
✨ Consistent photofractional laser treatments every 6 months to support skin health and quality
✨ Upper and lower face neuromodulators to open the eye aperture, refine brow position, and subtly lift the lower face
✨ One session of Kybella to contour the submental area
✨ A sprinkle of lip filler for balance
✨ twice daily to support her GLP-1 skin

If you are going to overthink anything, then go ahead and overthink how good it’s going to get. 🤍✨
