💛 Congratulations to Lena and Luis.

The "Girls" creator Lena Dunham and her husband Luis Felber have welcomed a baby girl, born via a gestational surrogate. Dunham came to surrogacy after a hysterectomy following years of endometriosis — one of many reasons a person may not be able to carry a pregnancy.

In gestational surrogacy, the Surrogate carries a baby she has no genetic relationship to. For many intended parents, it's the path that lets them build the family they hoped for.
