Women are being undertreated, underbelieved, and underserved at every level of healthcare, and the data proves it. For conditions like migraine, which already carry a stigma of being "just a headache," the cost of that dismissal adds up fast. Delayed diagnoses, undertreated pain, and people who stop seeking care altogether because they've given up on being heard.

The hardest part is walking into a room and wondering if you'll be taken seriously this time. Nobody should have to fight to be believed about their own body. If any of this sounds familiar, you're not alone, and you're not overreacting.

At Haven, you’ll have the chance to speak with a provider who truly listens. Book your free call through the link in our bio. 💜

Ever notice your migraine getting worse around your period, pregnancy, postpartum, or perimenopause? There may be a hormonal connection.

It’s not necessarily about how much estrogen you have, but how quickly your estrogen levels change. Those fluctuations can make the brain and trigeminal pain pathways more sensitive, increasing the likelihood of a migraine attack.

Migraine doesn't just affect your day, new research shows it may be aging your brain faster than you think.

Dr. Nada Hindiyeh was recently featured in Health breaking down a new study published in Brain Communications that scanned the brains of migraine patients and found their brains appeared an average of 4 years older on MRI than people without the condition. 66 brain regions showed signs of accelerated aging, including areas tied to memory, decision-making, and emotional processing.

Your brain doesn’t feel pain the way you might think. 🧠

The brain tissue itself doesn’t have pain receptors. Migraine pain comes from the tissues surrounding the brain, including blood vessels and the trigeminal nerve. During an attack, these pain pathways become activated and release inflammatory proteins that amplify pain signals.

So when you feel that intense migraine pain, it’s not the brain tissue itself that’s hurting, it’s the structures surrounding it.

If migraine were a job application, no one would want to apply for the position. 😅

Constantly dealing with attacks, planning around your symptoms, canceling plans, pushing through work, and wondering when the next one will hit… it can feel like a full-time job.

Instead of only asking for more acute medication, ask about a preventive treatment plan.

Acute medications are used to treat an attack once it starts, while preventive treatments are designed to reduce how often attacks happen and how severe they are. They won’t necessarily eliminate migraine completely, but they may help you have fewer attacks over time. Both can work hand in hand as part of a migraine treatment plan.

This is what a hemiplegic migraine may look or feel like. If you’re experiencing these symptoms for the first time, especially sudden weakness or paralysis on one side of the body, please seek emergency medical care to rule out a stroke or other serious conditions.

Migraine affects millions of people, yet it remains significantly underfunded and most people living with it are women.

A recent analysis found that migraine receives less research funding than you’d expect based on how much disability it causes. And despite the NIH’s overall budget growing, the share of funding dedicated to women’s health research has declined.

Less funding means fewer studies, slower progress, and patients waiting longer for better answers and treatments. For the millions of people living with migraine, this isn’t just a statistic, it impacts their everyday lives.

Could frequent migraine be connected to bone health? 🦴

A new study found that women with frequent migraine had lower vitamin D and calcium levels, as well as differences in bone density and bone quality compared with women without migraine.

This doesn’t mean migraine causes poor bone health, but it highlights another area of health that may deserve attention, especially for women living with frequent migraine.

Most people think a migraine attack is just a headache. It's actually four distinct phases, and the headache is only one of them.

The first sign can show up 24 to 48 hours before any pain even starts. Knowing what to look for is what gives you the chance to treat it earlier.
