As healthcare and community needs continue to evolve, leaders at every level play an important role in shaping how people are supported, how organizations respond to change, and how care is delivered. The Chinese Hospital Leadership Development Institute was created to strengthen that leadership capacity and prepare individuals to lead with purpose, sound judgment, and a deep commitment to the communities they serve.
We were proud to kick off the Institute with Dr. Jian Zhang, former CEO of Chinese Hospital, executive coach, and advisor to the Chinese Hospital Board of Trustees.
Session 1, “Leadership Identity & Mindset: Leading Yourself Before Leading Others,” focused on the idea that effective leadership starts from within. Participants explored self-awareness, emotional intelligence, values, purpose, and leadership philosophy, while connecting modern healthcare leadership competencies with principles from The Great Learning and Dr. Zhang’s Five Pillars of Leadership: Character, Competence, Compassion, Courage, and Continuous Growth.
The Institute also reflects the broader vision of the Dr. Jian Zhang Leadership Fund, which invests in leadership at every level through Board Development, Physician Leadership, Hospital Leadership, and Community Leadership. The goal is not only to develop individual leaders, but to strengthen the organizations and networks that communities rely on, creating a ripple effect that can improve care, deepen trust, and help build a healthier, stronger community.
Over the eight-session program, participants will continue building the skills and mindset to lead people, strengthen teams, navigate change, and create meaningful impact.
When leaders grow, the impact reaches far beyond the individual — to their teams, their organizations, and the communities they serve.
