Santa Cruz County is putting lifesaving tools where they matter most. A new public access Avive Connect AED now stands at the Santa Cruz Harbor in honor of Kyle J Taylor (Kyle J. Taylor Foundation), who loved this spot and lost his life to sudden cardiac arrest at 18.

Plus, every Capitola patrol vehicle now carries an Avive AED - thanks to Six Minutes to Live and the Capitola-Soquel Chamber of Commerce. We applaud Santa Cruz for making public safety a priority and turning community leadership into action.

When Lower Salford Township ’s aging AEDs started costing more to keep ready than to replace, Police Chief Cory Moyer went looking for a better system.

The township chose 16 Avive Connect AED®s - six units now ride in patrol cars, and the rest cover township buildings, parks, the golf course, and public works, with a live dashboard that shows location, battery health, and connectivity without anyone having to walk up to a unit. On Friday, Nov. 6 - we’re teaming up with West Chester University of PA for a campus-wide CPR & AED Training Day during Family Weekend 2026. From 11am-2pm at the Sykes Student Union, students, families, faculty, and staff can practice recognizing cardiac arrest, giving chest compressions, and using an AED in a simulated emergency.

WCU already has 68 Avive Connect AEDs across campus, and this event will help make sure the Golden Ram community knows how to use them. Come learn a skill that could save a life!

Cardiac arrest doesn’t wait. Neither should you.

Anyone can save a life, and survival rates can be as high as 74% when an AED is used within 3 minutes. This month, we’re asking our network to do two things: Learn hands-only CPR. Know where your nearest AED is.

That knowledge could be the difference between life and death.

The Kyle J. Taylor Foundation is a nonprofit dedicated to preventing Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) in youth and honoring the memory of Kyle John Taylor, who died at age 18. The organization provides low-cost or free EKG heart screenings, donates AEDs, and offers CPR and AED training.

Today, we were honored to celebrate the ribbon cutting of a publicly accessible AED at the Santa Cruz Harbor, across from the Walton Lighthouse - one of Kyle’s favorite spots to hang out with friends and family.

Publicly accessible AEDs can make a crucial difference in the outcome of a sudden cardiac arrest emergency. We hope the connectivity and 911 integration of the Avive AED will help ensure this station is located, accessed, and used when it’s needed most.

Thank you to the Kyle J. Taylor Foundation, Six Minutes to Live, and the Santa Cruz Fire Department for making days like this possible. We are honored to support this effort.

Affton School District in Missouri swapped a patchwork of mismatched AEDs for 27 Avive Connect AED®s across their five K-12 campuses - protecting 2,500 students, 400 staff members and daily visitors.

Their goal: reach an AED from anywhere on campus in under 3 minutes, and they walked the grounds and ran drills to prove it. At just 2.1 lbs, their Avive AEDs also travel with athletic trainers to every practice, game, and away event.
