Mamas deserve their flowers 🌺

As a mother, we experience many things great and difficult. Imagine a cup filled 1/2 way with water and another cup that is empty next to it, now try filling that empty cup with the 1/2 full cup. What did you notice? Our cup needs to be overflowing in order for us to fill another and keep ours full simultaneously.

If you’re a mama; what’s one thing you can do today, this week, this month, and this year that will fill your cup?

Refresh, renew, reset, revive yourself ✨

Happy Tuesday & new week 🌸 Weekly check in!

How many times a week do you check in with yourself?

May is mental health month and it’s time we take care of our whole selves. This month I challenge you to increase your check ins. You’ll be able to ground easier, cope healthier, increase awareness, and feel better day to day.

May is AAPI Month and I want to honor the PI as our people often get lost in this grouping. I am a proud Samoan and Black woman/daughter/wife/mama/sister/friend/ granddaughter/niece/colleague/therapist + so much more. My mother reigns from Pago Pago American Samoa and came into a new land (America) with her family a few decades ago having to erase some of their cultural identity to integrate in western society. Thankful my Grandma Tuiloma Maevaga Vaivao kept our traditions, language, and faith alive.

As a mental health therapist, I want to recognize that representation in my field matters. Healing in our Pasifika communities matter: you are seen, felt, heard, and loved. May is also mental health awareness month and there’s no coincidence we share it together. Take care of yourself and your community.

- Black women are 3x more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than white women
- Black women are 2x more likely to experience maternal mental health conditions as white women
- Black women experience a preterm birth rate 55% higher than other women

These are only a few jarring statistics that tugged at my heart, why? Because this is most black mother’s reality and this was my reality with my first child. This isn’t coincidence, it’s systemic. This week is Black Maternal Health Week (we deserve more than a week) and I would like to encourage all black mamas to advocate for themselves and their babies because we matter. 🪴

Data is showing a clear connection between the mind, heart, and body of so many mothers who have suffered cardiovascular issues, mental health challenges, and gaps in care during pregnancy. So many of these tragedies can be avoided and it’s over time to start caring about our black mothers and their children. Send love to a black mama if you know one; we face more disparity than you may think. Be kind to one another 🌻

- you can donate to help close the gap of iniquities mothers face and support a mama and baby in the NICU. ✨

Being a mother, you can be the last on the totem pole. Sometimes things pile and you feel you’ve lost yourself. A gentle reminder; you matter and you mean so much to those around you. Pour back into you so you can pour into others.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is a therapy founded by Francine Shapiro to help those who have experienced trauma. EMDR uses back and forth movement to help your brain reprocess disturbing memories or events that are “stuck” and causing emotional and sometimes physical reactions (triggers).

What I love about EMDR is we tap into your brains natural ability to heal so you essentially are healing yourself as our bodies are intended to do!

If you’re ready to take the leap in your healing journey and would like support, click the link in my bio to set up a complimentary consultation call ✨
