Reflecting on Pride Month 2026 with Marc Morozumi - founder and owner of Mukunda Studio
While Pride month and the Pride march today in SF aren’t the social activities they once were for me as a young gay man, I remain grateful that this day and recognition exists. And like all holidays, we do well when we see these as bells that signal a reminder of history’s lessons and stories for all time, not just for one month or one day. To see how widely Pride is celebrated across the globe in so many places with light shows and video art on the Salesforce Tower here in SF, it’s clear we’ve come a long way and deserve celebration.
And, it’s also clear that many people in many places near and far still cannot celebrate or even come out safely. There is a pattern of othering and disregarding those who are marginalized in order to elevate the dominant forces that wish to gain status, generate fear, and retain dominance even when it means causing extreme harm.
I’m grateful for the capacity we have to find joy from the resistance movements that got us here. I will always see resistance movements differently now that I understand the oppressors playbook which is being used over and over again here and abroad by supremacy systems. And when those supremacy systems co-opt these movements, it may get trickier to keep track of truth, I have faith our collective vision for a better world will be found.
Elevating our black, trans community and our most vulnerable today to remember we have a ways to go but we will always keep at it to help raise the vibration for all humanity. This is an all-8-billion+ people effort!!
