"How many eggs should I get during IVF?"
It's one of the most common questions we hear, but there isn't a single number that's right for everyone.
While having more eggs can increase the chance of having at least one live birth, not every egg becomes an embryo, and not every embryo becomes a baby. This natural decrease at each stage is called attrition.
For example, if 20 eggs are retrieved, only a portion may be mature, fertilize successfully, develop into blastocysts, and ultimately be suitable for transfer.
That's why fertility specialists focus on both quantity and quality when discussing treatment outcomes.
