April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and the news cycle is a painful reminder of how pervasive this crisis remains. Sexual assault is one of the most serious mental health injuries a person can experience, and nearly half of all women and 1 in 6 men will experience sexual assault in their lifetime.

Those of us who care about addressing the epidemic of sexual assault would do well to start with prevention. This starts with disrupting the ways that sexual violence is normalized in our society.
