As part of our stuttering school-age therapy program we work with our clients to complete stuttering presentations for families, eventually working with our clients to present in their classroom setting. Here is feedback we received from a parent after viewing their child’s 2nd presentation video:

I absolutely loved the presentation. It's always special whenever you two do one of these. These presentations have a way of bringing the discussion out of the darkness, while creating new perceptions. Stuttering is traditionally seen as something shameful, but after watching these presentations, you feel as if a weight has been lifted for everyone.”

Everyone knows that toddler naps are important but did you know how much naps impact their learning capacities?

This is also why it is so important to look into sleep issues. For example, children should sleep with their mouths closed and should not snore. If they do, talk with your pediatrician! Conditions such as sleep apnea disrupt oxygen going to the brain and thus can impact their ability to learn/retain information.

Elizabeth Bonker, a non-speaking autistic student at Rollins College, delivered the commencement speech for the graduating class of 2022 using AAC technology.

Elizabeth communicates by typing with the support of a text-to-speech device and was selected by her fellow valedictorians to address the graduating class. During the speech, she spoke about service, communication, and the importance of recognising value in every person.

She told the audience:
“God gave you a voice. Use it.”

Elizabeth has said that learning to type transformed her ability to communicate and access education. She now advocates for greater communication access for non-speaking autistic people through her nonprofit organization, Communication 4 ALL.

For many people watching online, the moment was a powerful reminder that communication does not always look the same.
