HAVN struck therapist gold last month when we added not one, but two wonderful members to our growing team. Today, we are pleased to introduce you to Associate Therapist Anitha Mohan!

Anitha might be a great therapist for you if you are currently navigating a shift in your life, experiencing shame and/or guilt, and/or having a hard time showing yourself love and compassion passion. She is particularly interested in working with women of color, especially South Asian women, as well as clients who have experienced sexual assault or trauma.

As a therapist, Anitha aims to create “a space that feels unique for you through exploration, reflection, respect, and humor. I’m interested in the nuance of emotions and how they may manifest in your body, your mind, and your behavior. Together, we will explore how your identity and lived experience come together to influence your story, and how to use what you discover to grow toward self-empowerment and healing.”

Anitha is available to work virtually with clients anywhere in California. To schedule a complimentary 15 minute consultation with her, send us a DM, email [email protected] or book instantly from our website!

Hey California- don’t forget, we’ve got you! Our highly skilled team is set up to support you virtually, wherever you live in the state.

HAVN therapists share a similar ethos: that vibrant emotions wellness comes from healthy connection between the body and mind, and that sometimes modalities beyond talk therapy are needed to bring relief to our struggles.

We can support you through anxiety, grief, trauma, life transitions, couples work and whatever else 2020 throws at us- click the link in our bio to learn more about our team (and peep our updated headshots by our talented friend !)

In working holistically with clients, we know that by focusing exclusively on one aspect of well-being, we miss the bigger picture and the way that the parts interact to influence the health of the Whole Self. Similarly, we would be naive to think that the mental and emotional health of the individual is separate from the health of the collective.

Holistic Mental Health is inextricably linked to social justice, and addressing mental health & wellness with integrity means addressing the fact that when one community is routinely victimized and traumatized, we all suffer. Self-care can only go so far if it does not also include community care.

This week has made visible yet another incident of violent police brutality against a Black person, re-traumatizing BIOPC communities and inciting outrage across the nation. How can care for yourself and your community in response? How can your own mental health work be in service to the collective? What does anti-racism work look like in personal therapy? If you need help processing overwhelm, exhaustion, fatigue, outrage and/or examining your own inquiries into privilege and racism, reach out to us or schedule a consultation through the link in our bio.

Please join us in welcoming the most recent addition to the HAVN team, Associate Therapist Elisenda Asencio-MacMartin!

In describing her work with clients, Eli says: “As a therapist I am here to be your companion, confidant and guide. I believe that it is essential to work together to slow things down so that you can identify values, patterns and priorities, in order to work towards a life balance that feels right for you”.

You and Eli might be a great therapeutic fit if: You struggle to practice self-compassion, if the inner critic is loud and/or if you want to become aware of relationship patterns that aren’t working for you.

Additionally, Eli has a soft spot for working with women as they process the end of a relationship and channel the powerful energy that can be present in turning a new page.

Eli is available to work virtually with clients anywhere in California. To schedule a complimentary 15 minute consultation with her, send us a DM, email [email protected] or schedule instantly from our website 💛

Are you missing the closeness of community? Craving ways to meet and connect with like-minded womxn, even in this period of social-distancing? Are you curious about how to develop or access tools to support you in integrating the challenges this year has brought?

Join HAVN and for a very special 8 week series beginning one month from today: Awakening Women’s Group. Over the course of our time together, we will explore:

* Non-dual states of consciousness
* How the relative/absolute work within our lives
* How to tune into our intuitive and innate inner guidance system
* Aspects of ego identity that may no longer be serving us
* Grounding and integration as a way of healing
* Psychedelic experiences that have brought about healing
* Ways to be liberated by the truth of our experience
* Quotes by Adyashanti, Eckhart Tolle, Thich Nhat Hanh, and more

This group will be held via Zoom on Tuesday evenings (6-8pm), 8/25 - 10/13, and will be limited to 7-10 people to preserve a sense of intimacy and safety. This group is intended for California-based individuals who have a passion for waking up spiritually through meditation, personal inquiry, and self-understanding, and is intended for womxn who are interested in inclusion and equality and for those who have the capacity to explore aspects of their white privilege (for white participants). We encourage all individuals to join that identify as women (she/her), women of diverse backgrounds, including people of color and LBGTQ+.

A note from HAVN founders, Kat & Sarah:

We’re approaching the two year anniversary of our group practice, created as a home for “curious & courageous” clinicians and clients alike. What an experience it’s already been as we continue to learn and grow as business owners, therapists and humans! This year also added the additional role of “mothers” to that list, as we both welcomed baby boys into the world within three months of each other- apparently we do everything together!

While we originally intended for this to be the year that HAVN’s brick & mortar would be established, offering new ways to grow and connect with you in person, 2020 obviously had other plans in mind. This global health crisis has asked us to reevaluate the way that clients and therapists access and utilize therapy, and has demonstrated that therapy can actually happen anywhere, not just in beautifully curated office spaces. As such, our team has been able to continue working virtually with our clients through these months where it isn’t safe to meet in person, expanding our reach to clients who wouldn’t have ordinarily been able to make it into our HAVN offices. Virtual therapy is sometimes messy, inconvenient, awkward and rife with technical difficulties, but hey, isn’t life? Isn’t the same true for being human?

In addition, these past few months, in particular, have highlighted the necessity of continuing to look critically at our business through the lens of racial & cultural competency. Now and always, we are committed to examining our offerings, the content we share, our resources, and the range of humans and experiences that our team represents to ensure that as we continue to evolve and expand in the years to come, we do so in integrity and in alignment with our values of feminism, social justice, inclusivity and anti-racism.

In courage & curiosity,
K & S

As a collective of therapists, HAVN recognizes that mental health and social justice are inextricably linked, and that also, systems of social inequality and White centering exist strongly in our profession.

HAVN has contributed over 25% of May profits to the following organizations, chosen by our therapists, and we humbly ask you to join us in donating what you can to the following, or to the individual educators and activists making resources, education and materials available to us online. Please share with us other names and organizations to which you are donating.

For the remainder of the week, we will be joining many in our community and muting our page in order to listen, learn and center the voices and content of Black and POC leaders in this space. We will be using this time to read, reflect, dig in, have conversations and compensate those that are providing us content, resources and education.

Thank you to .msrd & for creating this challenge

SOMATIC THERAPY: “A somatic therapy session will look different for every client. As in all therapy, the relationship between therapist and client is a foundational part of the healing process. Talking is an integral part of this process. Additionally, things like breathwork, movement, visualization, and explorations of posture and voice might be explored. A somatic therapist is also trained to be aware of nervous system activation, overwhelm, and dissociation in the client. Part of the work might be for a client to learn how to self and co-regulate when in stressed or highly emotional states, or how to tolerate being present in their body during periods of discomfort, and even pleasure. Somatic psychotherapy taps into the wisdom of the body in order to heal the body, which can lead to powerful, affirming and positive change.”

In our most recent blog post, HAVN therapist Jessica, a Somatic practitioner, explains just what Somatic Psychotherapy is, and how it supports mind/body unity. Believe it or not, somatic work can also be deeply supportive to the nervous system when working virtually with your therapist.
