Glad you are here. Wow — so you're curious about mental health? I admire anyone who has the courage, discipline, and self-advocacy people utilize to begin the quest of self-exploration through talk therapy. I commend them all for their bravery.

I always say to patients that the longest relationship you will have is the relationship with yourself, so you might as well get to know yourself and invest in that connection.
But how? I hear often from people how to even get started on a mental health journey.

Therapy provides a circumstance to awake and retrain the brain. The brain naturally follows ingrained patterns. We are doomed to follow these patterns unless we reprogram the focal point. The logical brain will always ask why. And there is a reason you do what you do — if you do not know what ill patterns or behaviors you are doing, then you cannot retrain, adjust, or change them.

So, how to know when, why, how to begin therapy?
1) Know your why now?
2) Start when you are tired of your own bu****it excuses,
3) Goal setting for measurable outcomes,
4) Openness of psychological flexibility for change,
5) Friendly and honest relationship with your clinician.
How have you known when it was time to begin investment within yourself and begin therapy?

Parenting is essential work and often over looked.

Raising kids is among the most essential work humans do, and yet it's rarely valued as skilled labor. Angela Garbes, author of Essential Labor: Mothering as Social Change, guides us through a shift in mindset to help give mothering the value it deserves.

As a medical social worker I have trouble reconciling the moral injury I've occurred from frontline work on frontlines from op**te epidemic to covid19 pandemic. I've realized that I had to admit that as a clinician I did not know the answers, nor had the resources to produce those answers. It has made me revisit my entire approach as a social work clinician. The "Fix Moral Injury" podcast are a group of clinicians discussing just that. And how in America clinicians can better approach the difficult healthcare system.
I felt as if Priya Mammen, MD, MPH was reading my mind on this episode. Refreshing and brilliant. Give it a look at Moral Injury of Healthcare

On the latest episode of the Moral Matters podcast, we talk to emergency medicine physician Priya Mammen, MD, MPH, who advocates for legislative changes based on the patterns she sees in her practice. She shares the power that storytelling, curiosity, humility, courage, and collaboration have in her efforts.

Unsung heroes of pandemic are social workers in medical settings in the COVID-19 pandemic and nationwide op**te issue. yas!

Social workers staff the front lines of American medical care and public health. They get little glory — and they are burning out.
