As we age, the muscle and fat around our eyes will start to sag. The skin on upper eyelids can make your lids appear heavy, and in severe cases, impair vision. Discolored “bags” under your eyes, or excess fat around eyelids, may make your eyes appear puffy and tired-looking.

👩🏼‍⚕️For this patient, Dr. Charlson performed a lower eye blepharoplasty. A lower eyelid blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that removes or repositions the fat underneath your eye to help achieve a more youthful look.

💥Dr. Emily Sarah Charlson is a recognized leader, innovator, and educator in blepharoplasty surgery. She is a board-certified ophthalmologist who prioritizes eye health. Additionally, Dr. Charlson is well-versed with the latest minimally invasive upper and lower eyelid surgery techniques.

👁Find out if an eyelid lift could be right for you by scheduling a consultation with Dr. Charlson. Call the office or visit our website to schedule an appointment.

November is Diabetes Awareness Month. To join the effort to spread awareness for diabetic disease we invite you to learn more about diabetics and how it affects the eyes.

Diabetic eye disease is a group of eye problems that can affect people with diabetes. These conditions include diabetic retinopathy, diabetic macular edema, cataracts, and glaucoma.

Over time, diabetes may cause damage to your eyes which may lead to poor vision or even blindness. However, you can take steps to prevent diabetic eye disease, or keep it from getting worse, by taking care of your diabetes.

Best ways to manage your diabetes:

1. Come in for a dilated eye exam at least once a year
2. Manage your blood sugar
3. Control your blood pressure
4. Checking your cholesterol
5. Eat healthily and exercise regularly

Often, there are no warning signs of diabetic eye disease or vision loss when damage first develops. A full, dilated eye exam helps your doctor find and treat eye problems early—often before much vision loss can occur.

Call us or visit our website to schedule an dilated eye exam with one of our Retinal ophthalmologists.

November is National Diabetes Awareness Month. This year's focus is on prediabetes and preventing diabetes.

💥Did you 1 in 3 people may be prediabetic? The good news is that people with prediabetes can take steps to prevent type 2 diabetes.

🔑Early detection is key, and since blurred vision is one of the first signs of diabetes, your eye doctor may be the first health professional to see you while you’re still in the “pre-diabetic” state – and can take steps to keep the disease from progressing.

👀Looking for an ophthalmologist? Most of our physicians are accepting new patients. Contact us today if you have any questions or need an annual eye exam.

📣Did you know that the CDC recommends getting the flu vaccine between early September and late October?

❓If you haven't received a flu vaccine for this year, please get one at your local pharmacy soon. Additionally, COVID-19 boosters shot are available to the public. Please click the link in our profile to learn more about flu shots and if you're eligible for COVID-19 shots.

🙋🏽‍♀️At Pacific Eye Associates, our eye doctors vaccinate each other and the staff. We keep ourselves healthy so we can prioritize your health and safety.

Facts About Flu the Shot:

💉It takes about 2 weeks to develop enough antibodies from the flu vaccine to protect you against the flu.
