Good Food, Great Colleagues and Bright Ideas

On September 8, more than 35 Orthopaedic Surgery staff members—from finance and billing to academic administration and IT—gathered at Pride Hall at Zuckerberg San Francisco General for a summer barbecue hosted by Dr. Ted Miclau.

Over lunch, colleagues connected, shared a few laughs and exchanged ideas about how we can make our work lives even better.

In the News: Stephanie Wong, MD, featured in TIME
We are proud to see Stephanie Wong, MD, featured as a subject-matter expert in TIME’s article, “The Surprising Perimenopause Condition That Can Freeze Your Shoulder.”

Dr. Wong explains why frozen shoulder can be difficult to recognize, how it is diagnosed and treated, and why women—particularly during perimenopause and menopause—need greater awareness and more treatment options.

A board-certified orthopaedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine and shoulder care, Dr. Wong is Co-Director of the UCSF Women’s Sports Medicine Center—the first and only center of its kind on the West Coast providing comprehensive orthopaedic care for women and girl athletes of all ages and ability levels.
Through multidisciplinary care, education and research, Dr. Wong and her UCSF colleagues are advancing our understanding of women’s musculoskeletal health across the lifespan.

Celebrating Dr. Sigurd Berven’s Retirement After 27 Years at UCSF

Dr. Sig Berven has been an integral part of the UCSF Spine Center, caring for patients and contributing to education and research throughout his career.

More than 65 colleagues and friends gathered at UCSF Parnassus on Monday, Aug. 31, to celebrate his retirement and wish him the very best in his next chapter.

The UCSF Department of Orthopaedic Surgery kicked off the academic year with its best-attended faculty meeting at Pride Hall.
