Nationwide, fireworks spark more than 31,000 fires a year and cause serious preventable injuries. Since 4th of July is also a popular BBQ and outdoor grilling day, the Burn Center recommends placing grills at least 3 feet away from deck railings and any overhanging branches. Be sure to walk away from the lit grill or leave them unattended, make sure to keep a fire extinguisher close by, and check hoses for cracks, holes or leaks before turning on the gas for propane grills. For more information on burn prevention and fireworks safety, visit cvmc.scvh.org/healthcare-services/burn-center/prevention and ameriburn.org/prevention/burn-prevention-fact-sheets/fireworks-safety .

With 4th of July celebrations this weekend, our Burn Center would like to remind you all fireworks (even those marked “Safe and Sane”) are dangerous and illegal to use, own, or sell in all of Santa Clara County, except the City of Gilroy. Please consider attending a family-friendly community event or one of the many professional fireworks displays planned throughout the County. For more information on burn prevention and fire safety, please visit scvmc.scvh.org/healthcare-services/burn-center/prevention or ameriburn.org/prevention/burn-prevention-fact-sheets/fireworks-safety .
