Today, June 19, we recognize Juneteenth—the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States.
Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when news of freedom finally reached enslaved Black Americans in Galveston, Texas—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It serves as a reminder that while freedom was declared, it was not delivered equally or immediately.
This past Saturday, June 13, Momentum for Health was proud to participate in the 45th Annual Juneteenth in the Streets Festival, hosted by the African American Community Service Agency (AACSA). It was an inspiring day filled with community, culture, music, education, and joy. We are grateful to have been part of such a vibrant and meaningful celebration, and we congratulate AACSA on a wonderful and successful event.
Juneteenth is an opportunity to come together in honoring freedom while continuing the work toward a more inclusive and equitable future.
Happy Juneteenth!
