Some runners get the same injury back every cycle. Others get a new one each time.

Either way, you lose training weeks you were counting on for a personal best.

The pattern usually points somewhere other than the injury location. When the spine drifts from its normal alignment and motion, the nerve signals moving through it may get disrupted, including the ones coordinating your stride and your recovery between runs. That's a Neuro-Structural Shift, and whatever ends up carrying the uneven loading is what gets injured first.

You don't wait for a toothache to see the dentist, and your structure works the same way.

Dr. Karo examines the alignment, movement and nerve communication your running depends on through Neuro-Structural Corrective Chiropractic, then builds a custom care plan to correct what he finds. It's how he practices sports chiropractic for runners around San Jose and Willow Glen.

With fall races coming up, the Complimentary Consultation is where we'd start.

One hip always tighter after a run?

Most of us favor one side without noticing. We lead with one leg and push a little harder off one hip.

Running looks even, but it rarely is. One foot lands a little differently, one hip travels a little less, and that repeats on nearly every mile.

It adds up to uneven loading and repetitive stress on one side, so those hip flexors and glutes fatigue sooner and tighten earlier. Low back pain on that same side often turns up with it.

Your spine protects the nervous system that times all of it. If its alignment and motion shift enough to show up on an exam, the nerve signals running through get obstructed. That's a Neuro-Structural Shift.

Stretching brings relief for a lot of runners. Dr. Karo looks beyond what stretching can access, examining the spine and the hip through Neuro-Structural Corrective Chiropractic. It's how he practices sports chiropractic for runners around San Jose and Campbell.

You don't have to wait until it starts costing you miles. A Complimentary Consultation is there whenever you want one.

The foam roller has a permanent spot in the living room at this point.

And it does help. The outside of the knee calms down for a day, maybe two, and then the next long run undoes all of it.

What foam rolling can't reach is why the IT band keeps tightening in the first place.

That usually starts higher up. Your pelvis has to stay steady through every single stride, and your nervous system is what keeps it there. When those signals get obstructed, the pelvis moves more than it should, and the IT band and the muscles down the outside of your leg pick up the extra stabilizing work.

Run after run, that is a lot of repetitive load on one strip of tissue.

Cutting long runs short every week adds up over a training cycle. When the structure underneath is corrected, the pelvis can hold steady and the band doesn't have to compensate.

Dr. Karo examines the spine and pelvis for a Neuro-Structural Shift, and the leg itself is part of the exam.

Three miles in, everything feels good. Then the knee starts aching around the kneecap, and the downhills make it worse.

New shoes didn't change it. Rest days help until the next long run.

Your stride is probably less even than it feels. One step a little shorter, one hip not extending quite as far, repeated thousands of times every run.

Your pelvis and spine absorb all of that. When they aren't distributing the load evenly, the knee ends up taking on the extra workload. Low back pain often tags along.

So Dr. Karo examines the spinal alignment, the movement, and the nerve communication coordinating your stride. When a Neuro-Structural Shift is in the way, the whole chain stops distributing load evenly.

You don't have to wait until it's bad enough to skip a run. That's what the Complimentary Consultation is for.

Is a sports chiropractor actually different, or is it just a label? Fair question. The difference is the goal of the care.

Conventional chiropractic care works on range of motion, muscle spasm, and easing pain for a while, and it's good at that. Dr. Karo's goal is correcting the cause. Every sport loads your body in repeated patterns, and that uneven loading and repetitive stress adds up in your spinal joints and discs. The spine can shift out of its normal alignment and movement, and the nerve communication that times your swing, stride, or lift gets disrupted. That's a Neuro-Structural Shift, and it's often what's behind low back pain after heavy training weeks or shoulder pain from overhead work. It's what his Neuro-Structural Corrective Chiropractic care focuses on for athletes and active adults around San Jose and Los Gatos.

Comparing providers before you pick one means you're taking your training seriously. Curious what a sports chiropractor would look at for you? A Complimentary Consultation is an easy way to find out. Link in the comments.

Guess where the Platinum team spent last weekend? The Wave, a chiropractic seminar at Life Chiropractic College West. Two full days of research on the nervous system, performance, and whole-body health.

A study on our minds since the seminar: after a single spinal adjustment, elite athletes gained measurable muscle strength, about 8 percent, with stronger signaling from the brain to the muscle. Your spine protects your nervous system, so when spinal alignment and movement shift, the communication that coordinates strength, balance, and recovery takes a hit. It's the idea behind the Neuro-Structural Corrective Chiropractic care Dr. Karo practices every day.

We came home energized and full of ideas to share. Ask us about it at your next visit, or if you've been curious about chiropractic care, come meet us. We'd love to show you what we do.

Playing pickleball and paying for it in one shoulder? It might be doing more than its share of the work.

Serves and overheads drive most of their power through your dominant side. When the spine isn't rotating well, the shoulder picks up the extra workload, and that uneven loading adds up game after game.

Dr. Karo examines the spinal alignment and movement plus the nerve communication that coordinates your swing, then builds a care plan to correct the cause.

Your body can cover for it for a while, but the workload doesn't go away on its own. Don't let a sore shoulder steal your court time.

You rested the elbow, wore the brace, maybe even did the forearm exercises. Then you got back on the court, and the elbow pain came back with you.

A serve or forehand is a full-body movement. About half its force comes from your legs and trunk (your core/spine). When spinal joints lose motion, your elbow takes on extra work with every swing, and that repetitive stress is often how tennis elbow starts and why it returns after rest.

Dr. Karo looks at the biomechanics behind the whole swing, the structure and the nervous system that coordinate it, and he examines the elbow too. If a Neuro-Structural Shift is adding that extra workload, correcting it lets the whole chain share the work again.

Don't let one elbow decide how much tennis you get to play. Schedule a Complimentary Consultation and let's find the underlying cause. Link in the first comment.

The round starts fine. Somewhere on the back nine, your lower back tightens, and by the drive home you're stiff and sore. Sound familiar?

A golf swing turns one direction, thousands of times a season, adding uneven loading and repetitive stress to the spinal joints and discs. Your hips and mid-back are supposed to share that rotation. When a Neuro-Structural Shift is present, spinal alignment and movement change and nerve communication gets obstructed, so the low back makes up the difference, round after round.

Dr. Karo looks at the structure and the nervous system behind the swing instead of only chasing the sore spot. Golf isn't the problem, and playing less isn't the answer.

Keep the game you love. Schedule a Complimentary Consultation and let's find out what's behind that stiffness. Link in the first comment.

Can a chiropractor help with a herniated disc? It depends on the case. That is why the exam comes first.

If a diagnosis (or a lift that went wrong) has you afraid to train, that fear makes sense. You do not have to sort it out alone.

A disc is one part of a bigger system. Dr. Karo examines how your spine is bearing load and how your nervous system is functioning, then builds a custom care plan around what he finds.
