Not every hormonal symptom is a hormone problem - this is something I wish more women understood.

Your hormones are supposed to fluctuate. Your energy, appetite, sleep, mood, body temperature, libido, and even bowel habits can change throughout your cycle - and those changes aren’t automatically a sign that something is out of balance.

But there’s an important distinction between a normal fluctuation and a persistent pattern that deserves investigation.

When symptoms become severe, persistent, suddenly different from your baseline, or start interfering with your quality of life, that’s when I want you to get curious.

The goal isn’t to chase every symptom or “balance” every hormone. It’s to understand what’s happening in your body and investigate when something doesn’t feel right.

Common doesn’t always mean normal and normal doesn’t mean something is wrong. That distinction matters.

Just a reminder that you can do hard things at any age.

This one feels especially personal.

I have a true love-hate relationship with outrigger canoeing. It’s my first year, so I’m still considered a novice, and there are days I wonder why I signed up.

It’s hard.

There are so many tiny details to learn with every paddle stroke. The women I paddle with are incredible athletes who take this sport seriously, and I’m constantly trying to keep up.

Every practice pushes me to my limit. There are moments I honestly feel like I’m going to throw up from the effort.

And then there are the exchanges - jumping out of a moving canoe into the ocean, grabbing onto another moving canoe, and somehow launching yourself back in before it takes off. It’s intimidating every single time.

But here’s what this sport is teaching me... growth rarely feels comfortable.

You don’t have to feel confident before you do something hard. Sometimes confidence is the reward for showing up over and over again, even when you’re the beginner.

So if you’re in a season where you’re learning something new, feeling behind, or questioning yourself, keep going.

The hard things have a way of becoming the things you’re most proud of.

POV: Your functional medicine doc asks you to do a stool sample… and suddenly it’s an emotional experience. 💩😂

Happy. Confused. Angry. Flirty.

We really committed to the assignment. 😂

You can’t hate your body into healing. And yet, so many women are trying...

“I hate how I look, so I need to lose weight.”
“I don’t like my body, so I need to work out harder.”
“I’ve been bad this week, so I need to be stricter.”
“I don’t recognize myself anymore, so I need to fix myself.”

Shame can create urgency, but urgency isn’t the same thing as lasting change.

When your motivation is rooted in punishment, restriction, or self-criticism, it’s incredibly difficult to build habits that actually support your body long-term.

You can want change AND love the body you’re changing.

The goal isn’t to punish your body until it looks different. It’s to create an environment where your body finally feels safe enough to thrive. 🤍

Burnout prevention is so much easier than burnout recovery.

We tend to wait until we’re exhausted, overwhelmed, sleeping poorly, gaining weight, losing our patience, and wondering why our body suddenly feels like it’s working against us.

But your body usually gives you signals long before it gets there.

Instead of waiting for burnout to force you to slow down, start building recovery into your life now:

✳️ Prioritize sleep - Don’t treat rest like something you earn after you’ve finished everything on your list.

✳️ Get outside - Natural light, fresh air, and a change of environment can do more for your nervous system than another productivity hack.

✳️ Choose light movement - Walking, stretching, Pilates, mobility work... movement doesn’t always need to be intense to be beneficial.

✳️ Optimize your nutrition - Consistent protein, blood sugar supportive meals, hydration, minerals, and enough food give your body the resources it needs to keep up with your life.

✳️ Protect your peace - Not every text needs an immediate response. Not every invitation needs a yes. Not every problem belongs to you.

The goal isn’t to create a perfect, stress-free life. It’s to stop treating chronic stress as the price of being successful.

Nutrient deficiencies aren’t always a simple case of “you’re not getting enough.”

Sometimes the problem is digestion, absorption, inflammation, or nutrient loss.

Your gut plays a huge role in breaking down food and supplements and making nutrients available to the body. Things like low stomach acid, H. pylori, celiac disease, inflammatory bowel conditions, certain medications, and intestinal inflammation can interfere with nutrient status.

The goal isn’t just to replace what’s missing - it’s to understand why it went missing in the first place.

That’s where functional medicine can be incredibly valuable: looking at the patterns between your labs, symptoms, diet, digestion, medications, hormones and lifestyle instead of treating every abnormal number as an isolated problem.

Your body is giving you information... we just have to learn how to listen.

So many women have been told “It’s just IBS” ...

“Everyone gets bloated” ...

or my favorite...

“That’s part of getting older.”

While digestive symptoms are common, they shouldn’t automatically be dismissed. They’re often your body’s way of signaling that something deserves a closer look.

Next time something in your gut feels off, ask yourself:
→ “Is there an obvious explanation for it?”
→ “Is it frequent or persistent?”
→ “Is it getting worse?”
→ “Is it interfering with my quality of life?”

If so, it’s time to take a deeper look.

Your morning routine shouldn’t leave you feeling like you’re already behind.

Somewhere along the way, mornings became another thing we had to “optimize.”

If your morning routine feels like another source of pressure, it’s probably doing more harm than good.

A nourishing morning routine isn’t about checking boxes. It’s about creating a rhythm your body can actually count on. Consistency is far more powerful than intensity.

My mornings are intentionally simple:
☀️ Eat a protein-rich breakfast.
☕ Sip my favorite Lifeboost Coffee (always after eating).
💪 Move my body with an occasional workout when it fits my schedule.
📖 Spend a few quiet minutes reading with my pups curled up beside me.
❤️ Finish with a little red light therapy while I ease into my day.

Nothing fancy. Nothing performative. Just habits that help me feel grounded instead of rushed.

Comment RED LIGHT and I’ll send you the link to the panels I use.

I didn’t become a functional medicine practitioner because I was fascinated by hormones or lab work (although I am now).

I became one because I was desperate for answers.

For years, I knew something wasn’t right. It started in my teens and only got worse through my twenties. My body was constantly trying to get my attention.

I struggled with debilitating PMS, digestive issues, eczema, stubborn weight gain despite exercising every day, and constant fatigue. I was diagnosed with IBS and told I probably had PCOS. Every appointment ended the same way: my labs were “normal,” I was offered birth control or antidepressants, and I was sent home.

But deep down, I knew there had to be more.

At the time, I was eating what I thought was a “healthy” vegetarian diet filled with gluten and dairy, living on Diet Coke, and pushing my body through intense workouts every single day. Instead of feeling healthy, I felt exhausted, inflamed, disconnected from my body, and frustrated that no one could explain why.

Everything changed when I met an Applied Kinesiologist and chiropractor who looked beyond my symptoms.

For the first time, someone asked WHY my body was struggling instead of simply trying to silence it.

I learned that my food choices were fueling inflammation, chronic stress was disrupting my hormones, and the way I was exercising was keeping my nervous system stuck in survival mode. Instead of masking symptoms, we supported my body so it could actually heal.

Little by little, my energy returned. My digestion improved. My skin cleared. My cycles became manageable. I finally felt like I had my life back.

That experience completely changed the direction of my life.

It’s why I practice the way I do today.

Having a regulated nervous system doesn’t mean your brain and body are suddenly calm and quiet.

Instead, it means that you can easily respond and recover from stress without it sending you into a complete tailspin that takes days or months to shake off.

Stress will always be there. The question is whether or not you have the capacity to move through it instead of carrying it with you until it presents as physical symptoms.
