Well-Watered Doula

Well-Watered Doula Hi! I'm Jade Molina, Certified Birth Doula (AWWS) serving Lompoc through San Luis Obispo! My family has been breeding Shetland Sheepdogs since before I was born!

Pregnancy, birth, babies, and breastfeeding have had me captivated since I was a child. I felt The Lord recently invite me to marry the two passions of serving and birth together, and so Well-Watered Doula was born! My desire is to make women feel heard, safe, empowered, loved, protected, and supported in the birth experience they desire and are designed for. Without a shadow of a doubt, I believe

in a woman’s ability to give birth because of our Creator. And no matter how many times or ways you've given birth, each experience should be treated with reverence and respect. Well-Watered Doula comes from one of my favorite scriptures Isaiah 58:11, which says “The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail. I like to think that the Lord would use this namesake to remind the mothers I work with that no matter how “sun-scorched” they may feel in their pregnancy or labor, through His power and love He will strengthen their frame and they would BE and BIRTH like a well-watered garden, where God’s power and love never run dry. My "Why"
From the time my mother became pregnant with my sister when I was eight, I was fascinated with the beauty and wonder of pregnancy and every facet of God's design of it all. I loved that I was invited into the whole process, helping with the nursery, watching A Baby Story on TLC with my mom, and even joining her at many prenatal appointments. When my mom went into labor I even got to help write down the duration and time of contractions for her. My mom gave birth to my sister shortly after I turned nine years old, and I was there to witness it all! One nurse in particular even invited me to help angle and shine one of the lights for her during the pushing phase. I watched my sister come into the world in a very traumatic way due to shoulder dystocia and her initial APGAR score of a 1, but in the end my sister and mom were safe and healthy. Some of my earliest memories are of waiting and watching the labors of our shelties growing up. In a way, I've been a "doggie doula" for a couple decades! I learned a lot about physiological labor just from being there with our canine friends! As a kid I learned about how letting puppies nurse stimulates contractions to help deliver the placenta and bring the next puppy down. I saw puppies born en-caul and born breech. I learned how to help latch puppies onto their mama, and I even learned how to clamp, tie off, and cut their cords! I saw how the laboring shelties wanted to feel safe in their environment, not wanting other dogs or a lot of people in the room, and they only trust felt comfortable with just a few very specific people. I could see in their body language that they relaxed when we pet them and told them they were a "good girl" after contractions and when we remained a constant presence with them. All of it left a lasting impression on me and further deepened my interest in birth over the years. While I do love dogs, I'm much more interested in supporting women and their families in my community. In a way, I feel that birth is a once in a lifetime experience. Sure, some women have lots of babies! I just can't help but think of those who may not have been able to conceive their own children and those whose previous birth experiences were traumatic or left them feeling dissatisfied. Every pregnancy is a miracle, and I honor it as such! My heart is to make you feel heard, safe, empowered, loved, protected, and supported in your birth experience. No matter how many times you've given birth, each experience should be treated with reverence and respect. I'd love to partner alongside you, hear about YOU and YOUR birth wishes, and support you in your journey from pregnancy to postpartum. I see the need in our beautiful Central Coast for doulas. I feel the need for intercessory prayer and God's perspective to be imparted in women to believe in their innate ability to birth their babies. After all, you were designed for this! I will offer you emotional, educational, physical, and spiritual support throughout your pregnancy, labor, and early postpartum.

Kicked off October with this special birth 🤍 I’m really proud of her for advocating so well for herself and of her husband for helping take some of the load off in researching and advocating for her as well. It really paid off when it came down to the day she decided to be induced. She had declined induction for several days and NSTs prior. I believe she made a wise choice in waiting and deciding to get induced when she did for medical reasons, as it allowed her body to get some early laboring done before she was ever even admitted. Shortest time I’ve spent in person at a birth. This mama did amazing. Healthiest little baby girl was such a reward for them! Love this little family and felt so blessed to have been on the journey with them. 🤍

I’m now offering birth planning sessions! One of my favorite things to do with clients prenatally is help them create a birth plan that is tailored to their individual desires for labor and for their baby postpartum. Maybe you already have a birth team but want a thorough birth plan to show your provider and to take with you to your birth location. Maybe you don’t need or want a doula but really would like a birth plan curated for you. If this is you, I’d love to help you. More information on what a session looks like on my website link in profile 📱 🤍

Posted with permission: When you’re a couple hours old and snug as a bug in a rug with your mama 😍
This birth was from over the summer and what a precious moment it was to see this baby boy lay immediately skin-to-skin on his mom and learn to latch pretty quickly! Mama’s active labor was only about 2 hours so it’s incredible how quickly that can go in the moment. Before we all knew it, he was finally here. 🤍🙏🏼 I loved being able to witness this special story be written. I don’t share a lot of birth photos I realized. I imagine that’s the content many of you are here for but I always feel like the photos are mostly so sacred and I’m always hesitant to even ask the mamas if it’s ok to post. But each time I’ve asked and gained their permission I’m honored to share a glimmer of the hours they’ve worked through to deliver their little miracles.

Teary this morning. It’s always humbling to read these and it just affirms in my heart that God has me doing what I’m supposed to do. I’m so happy for this mama getting a transformative birth experience and her little guy really buckled down as soon as the word “c-section” came up. He decided that wasn’t gonna happen 😄 This mama was so amazing at surrendering to the process and being prepared to pivot, but I’m glad she didn’t have to. This was a beautiful birth that definitely was a gift to be a part of.

“Breastfeeding isn’t just about milk. It’s also about love.”

Today is the first day of World Breastfeeding Week, and one of the most crucial things for our world to know is that not only is breastfeeding a God designed, perfect source of food for your baby, it’s also used to connect and love your child. Whenever someone says “they’re eating again?!” I can’t help but cringe a little inside, but it’s because of a lack of information around the subject. Yes, maybe they are hungry again. Or perhaps they are feeling insecure and want to latch on to mom. Maybe they are teething and need some pain relief. There are so many reasons for breastfeeding outside of just food. It’s truly sacrificial love for a child, and there are lifelong benefits of breastfeeding for both mother and baby!
I look forward to a week of breastfeeding facts and experiences with this community 🤍 🌎 🤱🏻

Happy Father’s Day 🤍

You don’t have to be a biological father, step-father, or even an adoptive or foster father to be a father to someone. To the men who stepped up and spoke truth and called out identity in children and adults they cared for, thank you for being a father. Parenting was never meant to be all on the mother, not all on the father. God designed men and women to have such unique and vital roles that they bring to the table in unity with each other. Thank you to the men who give love and encouragement to those who may not have a father around to do so. Thank you fathers for your strength and leadership. Thank you fathers for your tender love and relentless protectiveness over those you care for and for those who have no one.
God bless all the fathers on this Father’s Day 💪🏼🤍
