Did you know French Hospital has a music therapy program? Certified music practitioner Brynn Albanese uses her violin as an instrument of healing for our patients—whether playing in the hospital hallways or at a patient’s bedside. Hospital visitors and staff also benefit from her therapeutic music.

“I like to meet patients in the moment where they are at,” said Brynn, in regards to her choice of music to play bedside.

Earlier this week French Hospital’s Hearst Cancer Resource Center (HCRC) staff members—and our Foundation team—visited the busy construction site of our new, comprehensive cancer center in San Luis Obispo. Our group was guided by Senior Project Manager Lambert Arocha of CommonSpirit’s National Real Estate Services and the leadership team from Alan Roinestad Construction and Management, Inc. We toured the infusion center, surgery center, SLO Oncology, imaging, and the future site of the HCRC.

We are so inspired by the progress and counting down the days until we open our doors in early 2027! Last week we met new French Hospital volunteer Barbara and her therapy dog, Nora, on their very first day visiting our patients, visitors, and staff. 🐾

Nora is a five-year-old toy Goldendoodle who eagerly performs many quick tricks for her favorite duck treats. She also has a knack for jumping through hula hoops.

Barbara said Nora loves people and the beach. Before they moved to Paso Robles, Nora served as a pet therapy dog in Orange County.

We are grateful to Lauren and La Pizca Cuisine in Arroyo Grande for supporting French Hospital’s Hearst Cancer Resource Center (HCRC).

Proceeds from their recent Comedy Night event will directly benefit the HCRC, which provides over 32 programs and services free of charge to cancer patients and their families in our community.
