I write to you today to encourage you contact your assembly member to ask them to VOTE NO on AB 2497 which will be heard on the Assembly Floor any day now.
This bill would allow physical therapists to practice dry needling/acupuncture in California without any of the required training for invasive needle procedures. After the Assembly Appropriations Committee hearing, the bill language changed from “dry needling” to “intramuscular manual therapy”. This is the exact same practice and a simple Google search will confirm that. Rebranding acupuncture to a different name puts patients at risk and undermines the work acupuncturists have done to become recognized and respected in the California health care system. I hope you will continue to be an ally to patients and the broader API community by voting NO on AB 2497. Thank you.
