🤧 Illness trends continue to shift! COVID-19 variants N1/N2 maintained very high levels in Buda and San Marcos. COVID-19 variant Omicron increased to very high levels in Buda and San Marcos. Norovirus GII increased to moderate levels in Buda and decreased to very low levels in San Marcos.

✅ Protect yourself and others: Wash your hands frequently, cover coughs and sneezes, wear a mask when needed, stay home if you’re feeling sick, and keep your vaccinations up to date.

Hays County Development Services has confirmed that a mosquito trap sample collected September 1st in the 78676 ZIP code has tested positive for West Nile Virus (WNV). This marks the ninth WNV-positive mosquito pool detected through Hays County’s surveillance program this season. 🦟

🦟 West Nile Virus detected in Wimberley

A mosquito trap sample collected Sept. 1 in Wimberley’s 78676 ZIP code has tested positive for West Nile Virus (WNV), according to the Texas Department of State Health Services.

This marks the ninth WNV-positive mosquito pool reported in Hays County during the 2026 season.

Residents can help reduce their risk by remembering the three Ds:

🛡️ DEFEND: Use an EPA-approved insect repellent when outdoors.
👕 DRESS: Wear long, loose and light-colored clothing when possible.
💧 DRAIN: Empty or treat standing water around your home or workplace where mosquitoes can breed.

Most people infected with West Nile Virus do not develop symptoms, but some may experience fever, headache, body aches, rash or other flu-like symptoms.

Hays County Development Services conducts mosquito surveillance from May through November to monitor mosquito populations and mosquito-borne diseases throughout the county.

We would like to take a moment to honor Amelia Flores, Texas Vaccines for Children/ Adult Safety Net (TVFC/ASN) Coordinator, for 18 years of service at the Hays County Health Department. She retired last week, and we wish her the best during her retirement! 🙂

A TVFC/ASN Coordinator is responsible for managing a state-funded vaccine program. Amelia was tasked with ordering vaccines, tracking inventory, ensuring proper cold-chain storage and handling is being performed, training local providers on state compliance, and conducting quality assurance audits. Not only did she perform her everyday job tasks, but Amelia also attended both educational and clinic outreach events. 🗣️

Amelia started off as a receptionist for the front desk, then moved her way to billing, and lastly as a TVFC/ASN Coordinator. In 2011, Amelia was awarded the “Above and Beyond Award” for going above and beyond her job duties at the Health Department in the women’s health division. 🏆

As one of our longest-serving employees, we will cherish her dedication, loyalty, and hard work for the Hays County Health Department. 💙

Nos gustaría dedicar un momento a rendirle homenaje a Amelia Flores, coordinadora del programa Texas Vaccines for Children/Adult Safety Net (TVFC/ASN), por sus 18 años de servicio en el Departamento de Salud del Condado de Hays. Se jubiló la semana pasada, ¡y le deseamos lo mejor durante su jubilación! 🙂

Un coordinador de TVFC/ASN es responsable de administrar un programa de vacunación financiado por el estado. Amelia se encargaba de ordenar vacunas, llevar un control del inventario, garantizar que se realizara el almacenamiento y manejo adecuados de la cadena de frío, capacitar a los proveedores locales sobre el cumplimiento de las normas estatales y realizar auditorías de control de calidad. No solo cumplía con sus tareas diarias, sino que Amelia también asistía a eventos educativos y de divulgación clínica. 🗣️

Amelia comenzó como recepcionista, luego pasó al departamento de facturación y, finalmente, llegó a ser coordinadora de TVFC/ASN. En 2011, Amelia recibió el premio "Above and Beyond Award" por ir más allá de sus obligaciones laborales en el Departamento de Salud, en la división de salud de la mujer. 🏆

This past weekend, the Hays County Health Department had a wonderful time attending the Thrive Together Health & Wellness Fair at the Buda Public Library! 💚

Our team connected with community members, provided demonstrations of Behavioral Health 360, shared information about upcoming Hays County Health Department events, and handed out positive affirmation cards to spread a little encouragement along the way. 🦋✨

We’re always grateful for opportunities to meet our community where they are, share helpful resources, and have meaningful conversations about health and wellness.

A big thank you to the Buda Public Library for hosting such a great event and for bringing our community together! 💚
