Today our health department staff joined a few staff from the Hays County Parks and Natural Resources education crew to prep for our Disconnect to Reconnect event at Jacob’s Well Natural Area THIS SATURDAY! 🌿We’re so excited to collaborate and give families and friends a chance to disconnect from their phones and reconnect with nature...and with each other! 💫

What’s on the itinerary?
🌎 A “Protect the Recharge” activity facilitated by Hays County Parks staff
🥾 A guided nature tour with fun stops along the way, where families and friends can get to know each other better using conversation cards they’ll get to take home! 🫂

Huge thank you to Cenikor Foundation partnering with us and providing the conversation materials, and to the HCWC for providing the staff to help facilitate these wonderful moments for connection.

Hoy nuestro equipo se ha unido al equipo de Educación de Parques para preparar nuestro evento "Desconecta para reconectar" en el Área Natural de Jacob’s Well ¡ESTE SÁBADO! 🌿💧 ¡Estamos muy emocionados por colaborar y ofrecer a las familias y amigos la oportunidad de desconectar de sus móviles y volver a conectar con la naturaleza... ¡y entre ellos! 💫

Whether you’re at the stadium or cheering from home, make a game plan for your health:
🤝 If soap and water are unavailable, use a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol to clean your hands
💉 Be sure you are up to date on vaccines
🧴 Protect your skin by applying sunscreen with at least SPF 15
😷 Extra protection never hurts! N95 or KN95 masks are the best fit
🚕 Always use a rideshare service when celebrating
🌡️ Beat the heat with water and rest

Make memories together with a fun, screen‑free family adventure!🌞

The Healthy Hays Coalition Child Health Workgroup is partnering with Hays County Parks and Natural Resources to host a community Disconnect to Reconnect event. 🫂

🥾 Join us this Saturday for a FREE family tour of Jacob's Well Natural Area! We’ll have fun, easy activities to help families talk and connect using conversation cards to share ideas and learn together. Park’s staff will also lead the Protect the Recharge Game, where families will learn how groundwater reaches Jacob’s Well, find pretend pollutants, and discover hidden animals like the Texas Blind Salamander.

🤧 Illness trends continue to shift! COVID-19 variant Omicron decreased to very low levels in Buda. In San Marcos, it was not detected. Norovirus GII increased to very high levels in Buda. In San Marcos, Norovirus GII maintained high levels. COVID-19 variants N1/N2, RSV A, RSV B, Norovirus GI, Influenza A, and Influenza B were not detected in either city.

On Health Island, our strongest couple in the villa is… Sunscreen and insect repellent! ❤️ The vibes are strong, and they’re here to keep everyone safe all summer long. 🌴

When it’s hot outside, we need to take extra care of ourselves and our community. Make sure to use an insect repellent that has DEET or Picaridin to help protect you from mosquitoes. 🦟

Don’t forget your sunscreen! Use SPF 15 or higher, and reapply every 2 hours. Sunscreen helps keep your skin safe from sunburn and harmful UV rays. 🧴
