Our hands carry stories. They have held newborns, wiped tears, prepared meals, built lives, and carried burdens; sometimes our own, sometimes those of the people we love. They have worked hard, comforted others, and quietly offered strength when words weren’t enough. A single touch, a hand placed gently on a shoulder, or offered in quiet companionship, can speak louder than anything we could ever say. It says, “I see you. I am with you. You are not alone.”
There is a sacredness in that touch, especially when someone is nearing the end of life. When we place our hand in theirs, when our skin is the last they feel before letting go, it elevates the meaning of everything our hands have ever done. In that moment, our hands don’t just comfort, they honor, they witness, they bless. What a gift, to offer presence through something so simple, so human, and yet so profound.
Our hands are far more than tools, they are extensions of the heart. And in the end, it’s not about what they have built, but who they have held.
