We’ve been taught to think aging is mostly about body fat.
But what if the bigger issue is muscle loss?

Skeletal muscle is one of the most important regulators of metabolic health, insulin sensitivity, inflammation, resilience, cognition, and long-term healthspan.

And according to emerging research, the real metabolic danger may not simply be excess fat — but fat stored inside muscle.

In this episode of New Frontiers, Dr. Gabrielle Lyon and I explore:
🧬 Why muscle quality matters more than most people realize
🧬 The connection between muscle, insulin resistance, and fatty liver disease
🧬 Why anabolic resistance accelerates aging
🧬 How protein needs change with age
🧬 Why strength training is one of the most powerful longevity interventions we have
🧬 Body recomposition during perimenopause and menopause
🧬 The future of muscle testing and metabolic medicine

This conversation completely reframes how we think about aging, obesity, and metabolic health.

Most grab-and-go breakfasts are built for convenience.
This one is built for longevity.

These nutrient-dense egg muffin cups are packed with high-quality protein, fiber-rich vegetables, omega-3 fats, mushrooms, seeds, and spices that support healthy aging from the inside out.

Inside this recipe:
🥚 Choline for brain health + methylation
🥦 Sulforaphane-rich cruciferous vegetables
🍄 Mushrooms for immune and cellular support
🐟 Omega-3s for inflammation balance
✨ Antioxidants + polyphenols to support healthy gene expression

And unlike many “healthy” breakfasts, these are designed to actually keep you nourished, energized, and metabolically supported throughout the day.

Make a batch once, and thank yourself all week.

Save this recipe for busy mornings!

Your body was built to move.

But modern life quietly conditions us into stillness, and over time, that has consequences far beyond weight or fitness.

Low daily movement is associated with insulin resistance, poorer mitochondrial function, inflammation, cognitive decline, muscle loss, impaired circulation, and increased risk of chronic disease.

The good news? Longevity is incredibly responsive to consistent movement.
You do not need a perfect workout routine.
You do not need to become an athlete.
You need more movement woven into everyday life.

Walk after meals.
Take the stairs.
Stand during calls.
Carry your groceries.
Stretch while watching TV.

Build a lifestyle that requires movement instead of outsourcing all of it.

Because movement is not just calorie burn.

It is biological communication.

And your body is listening all day long.

Which “movement snack” are you adding first?

What if aging were more responsive than we thought?

In the DO-HEALTH trial, researchers followed 777 adults over age 70 for three years and found something remarkable: A simple daily protocol of omega-3s, vitamin D, and regular exercise, appeared to slow biological aging on epigenetic clocks.

Not by decades. Not by reversing time. But by about 3 months over the course of the study.

And while that may sound small, this is the part that matters:
The aging process itself appears to be modifiable, responsive, influenced by ordinary, repeatable inputs.
That is a profound shift in how we think about longevity.

Biology listens to what we do consistently:
→ movement
→ nutrient status
→ inflammation
→ mitochondrial function
→ metabolic health
→ recovery
→ environmental inputs
No single intervention is “the answer.”

But this study adds to a growing body of evidence suggesting that the aging epigenome is dynamic — and that lifestyle patterns may shape how we age at the cellular level.
Not a miracle.
Not immortality.
But measurable movement in the biology of aging.

That matters.

GLP-1s can help support weight loss and metabolic health. But they do not fully solve post-meal metabolic stress.

And for many patients, that’s where the real challenge begins.

Every day, repeated glycemic and lipemic spikes quietly contribute to insulin resistance, visceral fat accumulation, cardiometabolic dysfunction, and progressive metabolic disease — especially in the modern food environment.

In this upcoming webinar, Dr. Sanjay Bhojraj, Dr. Eric Johnston of .pro, and I will explore an emerging gut-local approach designed to help buffer metabolic stress directly at the meal itself.

We’ll cover:
🧬 The science behind post-meal metabolic dysfunction
🧬 The gut-local mechanism of SiPore® enzyme entrapment
🧬 SHINE trial outcomes including HbA1c, visceral fat, LDL-C, and lean mass preservation
🧬 Clinical integration strategies for prediabetes, weight management, and GLP-1 transitions

If you work with patients struggling with metabolic dysfunction, this is a conversation you won’t want to miss.

Egg quality responds to the environment surrounding it for months before ovulation. That includes metabolic health, inflammation, nutrient status, mitochondrial function, sleep, stress, and toxic exposures.

The same is true for s***m health.

We’ve normalized the idea that fertility decline is inevitable and that technology is the only answer. But research continues to show that reproductive health is deeply connected to overall health.

Some of the biggest fertility disruptors today include:
• Ultra-processed foods
• Insulin resistance
• Endocrine-disrupting chemicals like BPA and phthalates
• Chronic inflammation
• Poor mitochondrial function

This does not mean IVF or egg freezing is wrong. These tools matter. But many people are never told how much their biology still influences outcomes before treatment even begins.

Fertility is not just about how many eggs remain. It’s also about the environment shaping them.

Comment FERTILITY BLOG, and I’ll send you the link to the full article, complete with a fertility guide, with key labs, nutrition strategies, and clinical considerations for supporting reproductive health.

MS is often discussed as a neurological disease.

But underneath many symptoms lies something deeper:
chronic inflammation, oxidative stress, and mitochondrial dysfunction.

In my conversation with Montel Williams, we explored how inflammation shaped his experience with MS — and
why supporting mitochondrial health became an important part of his broader recovery strategy.

One key area we discussed: MitoQ, a mitochondria-targeted antioxidant under study for its potential to reduce oxidative stress and support cellular energy production.

Because when mitochondria struggle, the effects can ripple everywhere:
→ energy
→ resilience
→ recovery
→ inflammation regulation
→ nervous system function

This conversation isn’t about quick fixes or miracle cures. It’s about understanding the biology underneath chronic disease and exploring tools that may help support the body more effectively.

For clinicians and patients alike, mitochondrial health deserves far more attention than it often receives.
