Birdsong in the trees. Bees moving through the garden. Leaves rustling along the walking paths. The everyday sounds of nature offer another way to experience the Friends House campus.

World Listening Day encourages us to slow down and notice the soundscape around us, including the wildlife and natural spaces that make each environment distinct.

Friends House joins Sister Kathleen Keller's family, friends, and fellow Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus & Mary in remembering a remarkable woman whose life was dedicated to service, compassion, and caring for others.

Sister Kathleen was a resident and an engaged member of the Friends House community who generously shared her time and talents through the Garden Committee. She especially enjoyed supporting the community's apiary and helping care for the gardens that bring beauty and enjoyment to residents throughout the campus.

Throughout her life, Sister Kathleen served others in countless ways—as an educator, missionary, massage therapist, volunteer, and advocate for those in need. Her kindness, humility, and dedication to serving others touched many lives.

We are grateful to have known Sister Kathleen and to have shared in a small part of her extraordinary journey. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

Our thoughts are with her family, her Sisters, and all who were blessed to know her.

At Friends House, residents can choose from a variety of wellness opportunities designed to support movement, balance, flexibility, and overall well-being. From Chair Yoga and Qi Gong to Bone Builders and other fitness programs, there are options for different interests and abilities.

Staying active isn't about doing the same thing as everyone else. It's about finding what works for you.

Every small habitat helps support a healthier ecosystem.

As part of the Friends House Wildlife Habitat, members of the resident-led Environment Committee built a "bug snug" using sticks and other natural materials to provide shelter for beneficial insects, including native pollinators that play an essential role in healthy ecosystems.

The bug snug also supports birds and other wildlife that rely on insects for food. Future additions to the habitat will continue creating spaces for native bees, wasps, and other important species to thrive.

It's one more example of how Friends House residents are helping care for the natural environment right here on campus.

As our Lead GNA, Christiana is known for her compassion, kindness, and unwavering dedication to residents and their families. She believes every interaction is an opportunity to brighten someone's day, and after more than 28 years in healthcare, that commitment continues to shine through.

Inspired by the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Christiana carries this guiding belief with her each day:

"Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?'"

With Haviland, Thomas, and Stabler Neighborhoods all achieving Gold status, this milestone reflects our ongoing commitment to person-directed dementia support that honors each individual's abilities, choices, and life story.

This recognition celebrates more than a credential. It reflects the meaningful work happening every day between our residents, team members, families, and community partners.

As the Center for Applied Research in Dementia shared:
