We know that long-term care is about more than meeting a resident’s needs. It’s about supporting the people who love them, too.

For families navigating the changes that come with a loved one’s decline, even a simple visit can feel challenging. Our team strives to make those moments a little easier, creating opportunities for connection, joy, and meaningful time together.

We’re deeply grateful when families share how our team members have made a difference in their experience. Their kind words are a reminder of what compassionate care truly looks like: treating every resident with the same dignity, kindness, and care we would want for our own loved ones. ❤️

Thank you to the family who shared this heartfelt reflection, and to the Brooke Grove team members who make moments like these possible every day.

🚤🌿 A day on the lake, with a little wildlife education along the way!

Last week, a group of our independent living residents enjoyed a beautiful pontoon boat tour of Little Seneca Lake at Black Hill Regional Park in Boyds, MD. With sunny skies and plenty to see, it was the perfect day to get out on the water and explore!

Our tour guide shared fascinating insights about the lake and its wildlife, pointing out cormorants, osprey, turtles, and even a large beaver lodge. While the beavers themselves were tucked away for the day (they're mostly active around dawn and dusk!), residents got an up-close look as a beaver skin and skull were passed around to help us appreciate their unique physical traits.

And Little Seneca Lake is anything but little! The 505-acre manmade lake plays an important role in drought management for the Potomac watershed while also offering plenty of opportunities for recreation. We shared the water with kayakers and anglers enjoying the beautiful day.

Afterward, the group continued the fun over lunch at Woodside Deli in Germantown, where delicious triple-decker sandwiches made for the perfect ending to a wonderful day. 🥪☀️

At Brooke Grove, we love creating opportunities for our residents to explore, learn, connect, and enjoy the world around them. 💙

We couldn’t be more proud to see two familiar faces from Brooke Grove Retirement Village featured in the Catholic Standard! 💙

Independent living residents were thrilled to discover that beloved Westbrooke Clubhouse Servers Ava and Mya Plummer were recently featured in a wonderful article highlighting their journey from Our Lady of Good Counsel High School to their plans for careers centered on helping others.

During their time volunteering and working at Brooke Grove, Ava and Mya have given so much to our community. And in the article, they shared how much they’ve learned from their experiences here, too.

What a gift these two remarkable young women have been to our residents. We’ll certainly miss seeing them at the Clubhouse, but we’re excited to follow along as they begin this next chapter and head off to college!

Congratulations, Ava and Mya! We can’t wait to hear all about your college adventures. 💙

Read the full article in the Catholic Standard below.

For her part, Mya Plummer said, “Being a twin, I think twin telepathy is real.” She said while they were eating at their school’s prom, it turned out they were thinking the same thing, that “it felt like a middle school dance!”

On a beautiful Friday morning in July, Independent Living resident Susan Fifer Canby was out for a walk when she came across her neighbor, Elizabeth, who had been busy picking blackberries! 🫐

As you can see, Elizabeth had quite the haul, and she says they tasted just as good as they look. What a sweet taste of summer right here at Brooke Grove! 💜
