Do you think therapy should be a STANDARD with tongue tie releases for all ages?

I keep seeing this term “emotional intelligence “ 🧠popping up everywhere. And honestly, this past few years have been life changing for me and discovering my own emotional intelligence. I’ve learned not only about myself, but my patients, friends, family and colleagues through my work.❤️

Then this term starts popping up everywhere… and ya know what? I dig it! Because once you understand it, you realize so many around us might not put enough weight on it. I truly feel this is an important conversation for the WORLD to have, but at very least medical practitioners may need it most! 🩺👨🏻‍⚕️

Not because they’re lacking it most, but because it will help us to fulfill our missions better. I hope we can view this with an open mind of abundance.

As medical practitioners, most of us work SO hard on a daily basis and have sacrificed some of the best years of our lives to get here. And I hate to see how many people in medicine get ridiculed, or worse they hate their own jobs. I do think a focus on emotional aspect of our careers can truly help us to overcome a lot of medicines disconnect.

Scarcity mindset in healthcare helps no one. Some providers act like every tongue tie diagnosis is a threat to their turf instead of an opportunity to collaborate. Lactation consultants, ENTs, pediatricians, dentists — we are all supposed to be on the same team. The baby doesn’t care about your professional rivalry. Parents don’t need to be more confused. Fear mongering against tongue ties helps no one. There is clear data of the positive effects of the procedure, especially when done correctly with a collaborated team.

👂 HEAR ME OUT 👂

When we opened this office 6 years ago, one thing surprised us: how territorial the field could be. We heard that OTs shouldn’t work with babies (they absolutely should). That dentists shouldn’t do tongue tie releases, only ENTs. We even had patients told to cancel their appointments with us.

Over time, we came to understand where a lot of it came from — the pressure to protect existing referral relationships. When your practice depends on keeping certain doctors happy, it can start to feel like a closed circle, where the priority becomes the network instead of the patient. 💚

And that’s the part we care about most. Every family deserves the best care possible, and that means clinicians working together across specialties instead of guarding their corner.
