Why does the kid with the 145 IQ fall apart in a group project. Why is the one everyone expects to thrive the one quietly unraveling by October.

It’s rarely the IQ. It’s almost always the EQ.

Proud to have Dr. Rick Pollard representing our team at the Autism Symposium next Tuesday. Rick has spent his career at the intersection of education and family systems and brings a depth of understanding to this work that consistently makes me think differently about the students we share.

He’ll be joining Amee Hardy, Katie Rienstra, and Helen Waldron for a session that gets into the real bones of emotional intelligence and what it looks like in the students sitting across from us every day.

The work of supporting autistic young people is nuanced, demanding, and deeply personal. So when something feels off about the way we're helping, that's worth paying attention to.

Many clinicians carry a quiet unease about whether the therapy being offered is truly the right fit, in type, intensity, or role. These doubts tend to live in side conversations, waiting for a space where they can be explored more openly.

Greg Burnham and Dr. Lisa Cheyette are doing just that, offering those conversations a place to finally land. Their presentation explores how the pressure to legitimize the role of treatment providers can quietly lead to rigid expectations that limit curiosity and individualized care, and offers strategies for turning those private doubts into constructive dialogue, including an honest look at where coaching fits alongside therapy, as a complement, and sometimes as a more appropriate choice.

It's a conversation about being more thoughtful, not less therapeutic. And the goal is simple: to leave feeling grounded, a little freer, and more able to give the young people we serve what they actually need.

We are proud to share that Dr Lisa Cheyette has been appointed Co-Chair of the Therapeutic Consulting Association Board of Directors.

What makes this milestone particularly meaningful is the journey behind it. From TCA member, to Board Secretary, and now Co-Chair, her progression reflects not just tenure, but genuine investment in the TCA’s mission of advancing collaboration, education, and support for Therapeutic Consultants and Referring Professionals.

Our practice is honored to have a leader who continues to help shape the field with intention and care. Congratulations Dr Lisa Cheyette!

Emotional intelligence, how we read ourselves, relate to others, manage stress, make decisions…doesn’t show up on a transcript. Yet, it shows up everywhere else.
